Chapter 18: Gem Refining

8th month of the Yumas Calender

Lucy whispered in a low tone that was barely audible to the human ear, but everyone in the present room was able to hear it. Clarent who she was speaking to just managed to barely hear it, and acknowledged that she must be a shy person.

"How do you do beautiful miss. You definitely have a pretty voice, you should be more vocal." [Clarent]

Clarent let out a compliment towards the shy Lucy.

Clover and Hazel noticed that Lucy was being very shy in front of Clarent compared to her usual barbaric tone which made Clover unusually uncomfortable and Hazel slightly curious as to why Lucy is shy.

"Lucy are you shy in meeting new people?" [Hazel]

"Shut up Hazel... Everyone at the orphanage I've lived with, and I haven't gone out much at all since then. So... I'm a little nervous." [Lucy]

"Ha ha! The barbaric voiced Lucy, slain by a small boy such as Clarent, this is a sight to see, but don't worry Lucy, everyone is nervous meeting new people after they haven't interacted with new people in a long time." [Clover]

Hazel, Clover, and Clarent caught onto the situation pretty quick as to notice that Lucy is shy around strangers. Clarent decided to continue onto the situation.

"Anyways, Clover. Nice to see you again. How can I be of service to you?" [Clarent]

Before Clover entered the store, the bag he was carrying wouldn't fit through the door so he just left it outside, but the Hazel and Lucy still have their bags of unrefined gems.

"Lucy and Hazel have some unrefined gems here, and of course I would like service in refining them." [Clover]

"Sure, may I have a look at them?" [Clarent]

"Yeah go ahead." [Clover]

Clover gestures Lucy and Hazel to give their bags to Clarent in which they do so and place them on the counter. Clarent takes the bags and opens them to find gemstones all colored black symbolizing their unrefined nature.

"Hmm. Well, you sure have a lot of these stones, where did you get them?" [Clarent]

"Well. Umm." [Clover]

Clover looks over at Hazel and Lucy who are just nervously waiting and gazing around the shop, sometimes talking to each other.

"You see, I was out in the forest a killed almost half the population just to farm for money."

Clover thought to himself, 'AS IF I COULD SAY THAT' and continued to speak the real conversation out loud.

"I just found them while I was wandering in the forest." [Clover]

"Well Clover, you happened to find a lot of them, because these black gems could only be found inside of corrupted monsters or animals. But I have to give it to ya, your perception skill must be absurd to find this much." [Clarent]

While Clover and Clarent were conversing the two girls were looking around the little shop talking to each other.

"I wonder how much money all those gemstones will make if they were refined?" [Lucy]

"I would love to know too, no one knows the market value of a gemstone until it was refined, because anything could happen with the corruption. One small and weak animal could have a very valuable gemstone." [Hazel]

"You get that from one of your books from the library?" [Lucy]

"Yup." [Hazel]

"Why don't you share with me?" [Lucy]
