EXTENDED SUMMARY:

To say Claire Harding was an asshole would be the understatement of the year. She was bossy and mean and she hated being told what to do which obviously wasn't earning her any friends, but she was fine with that, after all, she hated most people except Jim Novak. Sure, he wasn't the brightest boy in Hawkins but he had a heart of gold and a sick addiction to arcade games which Claire shared.

However, during the year of 1983, Jim's innocent addiction to video games took a violent turn when a new game by the name of Polybius was installed in the arcade. He began to play it constantly, often times skipping school just to beat the next level. But perhaps the most peculiar part of the whole ordeal were the side effects which came with playing the game.

After a few weeks of playing the game, Jim began to hallucinate a world similar to his own but much darker. He was visited by men in black in his dreams—or what felt like dreams—and he told all of it to his best friend, Claire Harding. *

Now, Claire Harding wasn't one for conspiracy theories or the make-believe, so she didn't believe Jim when he told her Polybius was more than just a game. However, maybe she should have listened because a few days later, Jim Novak disappeared along with all evidence of the game Polybius ever existing.

━ i wrote this for myself, but i quickly realized,,, i wasn't going to write it. however, i love this with my whole heart so treat it RIGHT!!

━ i'd prefer if you just changed her last name because i feel claire really fits her.

━ another good face claim for claire would be lola flanery. she and madeline just look the closest to how i imagined claire. those are the only two options for the face claim btw!

━ so this plot is based off the arcade game polybius which was an arcade game that was supposedly run by the government. i'm not going to describe it, so just do the research please.

━ claire also loves arcade games, but she would never touch polybius because she thinks it's stupid. she's more into dig dug and stuff.

━ around the same time season one is going on, claire's best and only friend jim novak (you can change his name) starts playing polybius at the arcade and quickly becomes addicted to it as the legend says. he starts experiencing hallucinations and tells claire he's being visited by men in black in his dreams. in actuality, they're not dreams, and the people from hawkins lab are doing undercover experiments on the children of hawkins. they get to the kids through the game which records their data and progress as they play the game. claire doesn't believe him but a couple days later, he goes missing along with all the evidence of the arcade game ever existing.

━ claire goes to the police and tells them about what her friend said he was seeing, but they don't have enough evidence nor do they believe her. she's so heartbroken and doesn't want to live in hawkins anymore so her dad sends her to go live with her mom in portland, oregon.

━ a lot of time goes by and claire finally returns home to hawkins. i would like for her to return home in the summer during season THREE but if you want this to take place in season two then whatever go for it.

━ she thinks it's a new start and the past is behind her, but she quickly gets involved with the party and shit hits the fan.

━ she's a bit of a cynic and just a hardass. she doesn't believe in god or a higher being. she believes in science and facts. she has to see it to believe it. part of this stems from her being embarrassed about suggesting that men in black took her friend during season one.

━ when she sees that every legend and shit is real, she doesn't believe it at first but then she realizes "oh fuck this is real" and she starts freaking out. (you can have a scene where max tries to calm her down 🥺)

━ at the end, she should realize or find something that lets her know jim is dead and has been for a long time. she'll be sad but it gives her closure so she can move on.

━ she and max are cute asf. they're like gamer girlfriends who joke around a lot.

━ they are SLOW BURN!! mostly because claire is still trying to get over losing her friend (she loved him,,, like more than a friend) and she just doesn't want to lose another person she loves. they can get together at the end but like they don't HAVE to.

━ max reminds her of jim so it's hard for her to talk to her at first, but she quickly begins to fall for her the same she did for jim.

━ yes this means claire is bisexual or pansexual! your choice!

━ claire is very bossy and judge-y and she's not afraid to speak her mind. she's easily annoyed and hates most people. she and mike butt heads a lot because they're both very alike in that sense.
