EXTENDED SUMMARY:
Riley McAdams loved her comfort zone. She rarely ever strayed away from it and by rarely ever, she really means, never. Not with anything. Friends, school, hobbies, routine, even the food she ate, including ice cream. Ever since she was a little girl, she loved Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. She never strayed away from it or tried any other flavor. To her, Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream was great and she didn't need to try any other flavor. She came into Scoops Ahoy every day and had one scoop of Mint Chocolate Chip in a dish.
It was a daily thing for Riley to come into Scoops Ahoy. It wasn't just the ice cream that she loved, though, it was the girl behind the register. Riley thought Robin was the sweetest, funniest, smartest, and most beautiful girl she had ever met. So, when Riley noticed Robin was on a break, she invited the girl to sit with her to get to know her, which then became another daily thing. Riley would get a scoop of the Mint Chocolate Chip and chat with Robin for her full fifteen minute break.
When Dustin Henderson returns home from camp with a Russian code to break, he enlists the help of Steve Harrington. Steve then enlists the help of Robin, who enlists the help of Riley, who immediately denied, not wanting to get involved in something like that. Riley's comfort zone was her safety net but she was falling hard for Robin and with a little push, she found herself going way out of her comfort zone for the cute girl at Scoops Ahoy.
NOTES:
— robin is always the person who gives her the ice cream bc robin has a crush on her. like if robin is on a break & sees riley come in, she will come off her break just to serve riley
— riley hates trying new things. she is very into her comfort zone & hates going out of it
— robin enlists riley's help bc she knows that she's really smart & has studied multiple languages in school
— when it comes to the plot with season 3, riley should be very very hesitant with everything. she is the one who is telling them not to go searching & to not go into that room. basically, she's like the babysitter a little.
— robin's nickname for riley is mint chocolate chip until she finds out riley's name but even them, she still calls her mint chocolate chip
— i can picture robin seeing riley walk into scoops ahoy for the first time & asking steve "who is that?" after riley leaves & just being so heart eyes for her
— both girls really like each other but both are too afraid to make the first move bc being gay in the 80s wasn't an accepted thing. they're both scared that they might lose the other if they admit their feelings
— when they do admit their feelings, i think riley should say something like "the ice cream was good but the company was better" or something like that referring to robin
— if you want to make this an au, you can & just not have it follow the plot of season 3 but tbh i think it would still be really cute if it did follow the plot
