Emmett

"Well will you look who's back." Edward spoke the minute Rosalie and I sped into the house they were currently living in. It was a cosy manor in a really isolated small part of Canada. Little sunshine around this time of the year and not many people around. In short? It was perfect for us.

Alice was the first to squeal and jump to her feet to welcome us.

She sped to Rosalie and wrapped her in a bone crushing hug.

Literally bone crushing.

"I missed you guys so much, I'm so glad that you're back." She spoke before turning towards me and wrapping her tiny but strong arms around me.

Jasper appeared behind her and smirked. "How are the not so newly weds doing?" He asked.

Rosalie rolled her eyes at him. "Oh don't be jealous because you didn't get to have another honeymoon."

Jasper took Alice's hand and gave her a warm smile. "I'll have you know that our love does not require more than one honeymoon. Every day with her is a honeymoon."

"That's so cheesy." Rosalie spoke.

"Oh Rosalie, still such a hopeless romantic." Bella muttered sarcastically as she walked foward to greet us.

She firstly wrapped her arms around Rosalie in a hug. I still find it amazing how these two became friends. Rosalie absolutely despised Bella in the past when Edward just started dating her.

Bella then moved towards me and gave me a fist bump.

I smiled at her. "Hey, Bells, have you been keeping my brother busy?" I teased with a wink.

Edward appeared and wrapped his arms around Bella from behind.

"Emmett, behave." He warned.

I raised my hands in defence. "Just asking."

Bella reached forward to give me a playfully punch which actually hurt a little.

"How's Renesme?" Rosalie asked with nothing but compassion in her voice.

I knew how much she loved Bella's daughter like she was her own. In fact, in the past, before they started getting along, I was so sure Rosalie would rip that baby out of Bella's stomach without hesitation not caring whether Bella would live or die when Bella was having trouble giving birth.

"She's alright, although her and Jacob moved to Madrid yet again without informing us." Bella spoke in that motherly tone of hers.

Edward let out a sigh. "Bella, I already told you, you have to let her live her life without checking in with us all the time."

"I gave her life so I should have a say in what she does!" Bella spoke defensively.

"Do you even hear yourself right now?" Alice giggled.

"You sound like the most overprotective mother in history." Rosalie added.

"I am simply looking out for my little girl!" Bella argued.

"She is a married woman, Bells." I pointed out.

"She'll always be our little girl." Edward spoke.

"But they're right, Bella you need to tone down on the mother bear attitude a bit."

Bella frowned but decided not to argue.

"Hey, where's Esme and Carlisle?" Rosalie asked changing the subject.

I too wondered where the two vampires who were like parents to us were.

"Oh they parted from us a few days ago to spend a few days in the mountains for a romantic getaway." Alice explained.

I smiled. Each one of us, couples, had our own unique and very different ideas of romantic getaways.

While Rosalie and I would rather spend the time ripping off each other's clothes, Alice and Jasper would rather do something like seeing the beautiful sights of Europe while Bella and Edward would be more into having a quiet picnic or playing chess somewhere just the two of them.

We're all really different.

"Speaking of getaways. We were all about to go hunting." Jasper pipped up.

"Oh great, I'm starving." Rosalie moaned.

"Emmett and I hardly had the time to get a bite while we were-"

"Please don't say it out loud. It was bad enough reading it from your mind." Edward spoke in disgust.

Rosalie scowled at him.

"Well no one asked you to."

"Trust me, if I had a choice, I would turn it off."
Edward muttered. He shot me a strange look.

Oh no! I completely forgot about Edward's ability, if he had been reading my mind since we got back, he obviously knew that my mind was only on one person and that person was not my wife.

I avoided eye contact with him feeling like a child who had just been caught doing something naughty.

"We should get going before the locals get up." Bella spoke up as she took Edward's hand, temporarily distracting him from me.

Jasper reached out to do the same but Alice shook head.

"No, I already went this morning, remember?"
Jasper nodded. These two have always amazed me with how they can say one thing and the other understands completely without question.

"I'll stay behind with Alice." I offered.

This time, Edward didn't even hide the sceptical look he gave me. He clearly knew of my intentions but I couldn't tell if he disapproved or not.

"Are you sure? You've haven't had anything to drink in a while." Rosalie told me.

I smiled at her and placed a kiss on her lips. "I'm good, babe."

She shrugged before leaving with the others.
I turned back to face Alice and she was already looking at me as if she could read my mind too.

I let out a sigh. "Can we skip the part where you ask me what I want to know... because I know that you know that already."

Alice frowned. She gave me a sympathetic look.

"Honestly, I was hopping Carlisle or Esme
would be the ones to break the news to you."

Her whole attitude and behaviour was already enough to send me into a panicky mood.

"Is she okay? Did something happen to her?" I asked hurriedly.

Alice continued frowning. She shook her head, no.

"What do you mean?" I growled.

I had asked the question but I hadn't expected a negative response. All this time I had been convincing myself that distancing myself from her was the answer. I thought that would keep her safe.

Seeing Alice's expression made me realise that something was seriously wrong and I knew I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if anything bad had happened to her.

"Alice, tell me what happened. Did she hurt herself? Get into an accident?" I asked dreading the answer.

"Emmett." Alice whispered. "Sophie is dead. She... she committed suicide."

I felt my undead heart drop and even though I didn't need to breath. I felt like someone was choking me, there was this uncomfortable, agitated feeling that consumed me.

I felt like something was just ripped out of my body making it harder to function. Making it too painful to exist.

I couldn't wrap my head around Alice's words, mostly because I didn't want to believe them. It couldn't be true. It couldn't be true.
This couldn't be happening.

No, no. She couldn't be dead. I refused to believe it.

She couldn't be gone just like that!

I... I didn't even get to sat goodbye.

"Em.." I heard Alice whisper.

I couldn't stand here and listen to her tell me that she was gone, that she was dead... I just couldn't.

I quickly sped out of the house.
