Bad Habits

Emmett

It was a horrible habit.

A habit I needed to curb because it was unhealthy and not to mention, creepy.

But I couldn't help it. I needed to see her and be in her presence without making her uncomfortable. And what better time to do that than when she was in her most peaceful state; asleep.

I moved around her room carefully, not wanting to wake her. Every time I looked at her. I felt like I was rediscovering her. Noticing little details I had missed earlier. Or maybe they were just details I failed to appreciate when I had her.

It's funny how that worked.

Whenever we were pulled apart, something would bring us back together again. If that wasn't a sign, I don't know what was.

She stirred slightly in her sleep. I froze in my position even though I knew I wasn't making any sounds.

"What do we have here?" I heard a low familiar voice. I let out a growl and turned to see the Volturi scam eyeing me with distaste.

He turned around and exited the room. I followed knowing that's what he expected me to do.

He sped out of the cabin and stood underneath the crescent moonlight.

"How many times do I have to tell you to stay away from her?" He growled.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone saw us.

Leah and Paul must have been close by because they were in charge of guarding Sophie's cabin tonight.

Tanya, Eleazer and Garette were scattered around the property, looking out for threats.

"I don't take orders from you." I growled.

Alec narrowed his eyes at me. "Haven't you hurt her enough? Why can't you just let her go and allow her to be happy with us."

"She will never be happy with you. I don't know what kind of lies you've told her about the magical life of being part of the Volturi but I know it's all lies. And I don't know how you got her to abandon her father but I promise you, you're making a big mistake if you think she'd prefer a life with the likes of you."

"The only reason I haven't killed you is for her sake.

I laughed. "Fine, then. Kill me. Show her what kind of monster you really are."

"I'm the monster? Last I checked you abandoned her and fled because you were scared of your... what was it... 'emotions'?"

I growled and clenched my fist. I know other people were present when I was saying those things but I was saying them to Sophie. It was bad enough that she didn't believe them but for him to make fun of me for it?

"Maybe I should kill you and do everyone a favour." I spoke.

"Oh I'd like to see you try." Alec spoke as he raised his arms slightly. Obviously preparing to emit that toxic vapour of his.

I was getting ready to charge before he could.

"What are you guys doing?" I heard Bella hiss as she walked towards us with Jacob and Renesme in tow.

She sped in between us.

"I know you don't like each other but we have to work together for Sophie."

I glared at Alec and he returned the favour but we both backed away anyway. We knew she was right. This was for Sophie. She's the only one who mattered.

"Where are the rest of you?" Bella asked Alec.

"They don't trust you." He spoke. "For all we know this is a plot by all of you to try and take us down. They're a safe distance away from here. They're not going to come into your territory and fratenize with the enemy." He looked distastefully at Jacob in particular.

Jacob glared at him.

"We're not here to sign some sort of friendship treaty. We all know that. But we're not here to start a war either. We have a mutual enemy." Jacob spoke.

"Oh, we are most definitely planning to fight for Sophie but we're not coming here. If you want to talk to us about strategy. Come find us."

"Fine." Bella huffed. She folded her arms across her chest. "I'll come over with Jasper right now. Take us there."

Alec shook his head. "If you want to go now you'll have to find them yourself." He cast me a look. "I have a girlfriend to watch over."

With that he disappeared back into the cabin.

"I seriously want to rip off that guys head." Jacob muttered.

"Get in line." I spoke.
