It was fresh, a dark purplish color...almost looked like a finger. I noticed that there were a few more to join it, circling my arm.
Did someone grab me last night?
I scanned my memory, trying to figure out why there would be a bruise on me that looked like that. There was nothing.
What the hell? I shook my head in confusion.
There was a knock on my front door so I walked into the living room to find Kat letting herself in. I should probably start locking my door.
"Hey bitch, you ready?"
I stuck my tongue out at her and then grinned. "Yeah, just about. I wish they would hurry up and call me about my car. I hate relying on you for everything."
She shrugged. "It's fine. I don't have anything else planned this morning. Gonna go see Sam later. We're going to go play mini golf." She winked at me. "Wanna see if Colby wants to join us?" She asked, wiggling her shoulders.
I rolled my eyes. She was never going to let me live this down now, especially after reading what I wrote out on my laptop. I thought that I would die of embarrassment last night. When I tried to grab my laptop from Kat, I fell on my ass and she started reading what I had written out loud.
"What is this force, this longing that I feel? Is it insanity in my head, or is it real? His ice blue eyes, raining hell down on me, his words sting my flesh, but no one can see. My fingers ache to touch him, to sooth his angry soul."
I jumped up and snatched the laptop, almost falling again as it slipped from her hands.
"Oh my God! You are crushing on Colby! There's no one else that could be about!"
My face was flaming. I knew it. I could feel the heat radiating from my cheeks.
"It's just something that I was writing Kat. It's not about anyone. I'm not very good at poetry and I was practicing."
She nodded her head at me, her lips quirking up. "Sure, sure. I guess ice blue eyes and angry soul could be anyone, huh?" Her lips curved up into a grin. It was kind of starting to piss me off.
"Yeah, it could be actually." I said haughtily, turning to take my computer to my room.
She started laughing behind me. "Oh come on Chloe, don't be like that!"
I slammed my bedroom door behind me and didn't come out till this morning.
This was the first time that I was seeing Katrina since that happened and I was hoping that she had forgotten about it. That shit was embarrassing as hell. I don't like to show my vulnerable side very often and she literally just read some of my inner most thoughts. I wasn't even good at poetry. It was just something that I was working at, and I needed to get that crap with Colby off my chest. I should probably delete the whole thing.
"Shut the fuck up Kat." I said, turning away from her to hide my flaming cheeks again, and grabbing my purse. "Come on." I said, pushing past her and walking out the door.
She followed me, still laughing, and waited for me to lock the door, before we headed down the hall. "It was actually pretty good though." She said, as we walked down the stair well.
"Shut UP Kat," I snarled, not wanting her to bring it back up again.
She laughed at my uneasiness. I actually wanted to hit her.
"I'm serious! You should use it as one of your things that you turn into the publishing companies, or agents, or however you work the writing world."
I rolled my eyes as we walked outside towards her car. "Yeah, that's not going to happen." I replied.
I was working on something to hand in to the companies. I knew that this was going to be a hard world to break into though so I wanted it to be perfect. I was going to apply for jobs at publishing companies, and anything related to the writing world.
After that, I was going to apply to anywhere that would have me. I didn't care at this point.
There wasn't a lot of money left, that I had brought with me to help me survive until I could find a job so I had to rush things. I thought that I would be set for a few months, but I didn't realize just how expensive LA was to live in.
College was over, and it was time to grow up, to make sure that I was settled on my own. Honestly, I had been doing that for a while now anyways.
Kat stopped in front of her car, me almost plowing into her back.
"What the fuck?" I asked, side stepping her.
She turned towards me and threw her arms around me. My eyes went wide in surprise. I put my arms around her waist.
"What's wrong?" I asked, my voice softer than normal.
She let me go and stood back, smiling. "Nothing. I'm just really glad that we kept in touch and that you're finally here! I've missed you so much. I wanted to you to come straight here when you turned 18 and got out of the foster system but I knew you had that scholarship for College. I didn't want to mess that up, so I didn't even ask. I just wanted you to know that I wanted to ask."
Damn it...only Kat knew how to crack my hard exterior shell. I pushed down the lump and cleared my throat.
"I'm glad I'm here too." I replied, giving her a soft smile.
She just laughed and threw her head back, her blue hair flying in the wind. "It's killing you to show a little sensitivity, isn't it?"
I opened the car door and climbed in. "Yes it is. Can we go?"
She kept laughing as I closed the door. She climbed in, looked at me, and laughed again.
"You're such a bitch," I replied, smiling at her.
I did love her goofy ass. She grinned back. "Look who's talking. You're the biggest bitch I know."
Okay, she had a point. I pointed my finger at her. "Touche."
I usually told Kat everything, she was my confidante, always had been since the first day we met in high school.
