"No one is going to touch Chloe," Sam continued.

My eyes were fixed on Colby. He had never looked more terrifying than he did right at this minute.

He had dropped into a low crouch, his eyes black as night, the white almost as dark red as the blood he had just inhaled, fangs extended, mouth open in a menacing growl.

I didn't really understand why he was acting this way. These were his friends.

Did he really think that they would try to hurt me? I know that Elton acted a little extreme sometimes, and I'll even admit that he kind of scared me, but would he actually hurt me? To be honest, I wasn't sure.

I would like to think that I was safe here, with Sam and Colby, but I was also in a house full of vampires with warm, fresh human blood coursing through my veins...safe was probably not the word to use.

"Back down Elton." Sam said, in a more demanding tone, and I could hear the ring of authority that rang out in it.

Elton was also in a crouch, ready to launch himself at Colby, but he looked like he was having fun with it.

He looked up at Sam, disappointed.

"I was just having some fun with him," he replied, dejectedly standing back up.

Sam pulled Colby's arm, to get his attention away from Elton.

 "Colby, you're scaring Chloe."

Colby snapped his eyes towards me, and I took a step back. He was honestly...terrifying. It seemed like him seeing me a little frightened brought him back.

His eyes contracted, the pupil shrinking and the familiar blue flooding back in.  He stood straight and took a step towards me. My brain was on reflex and I honestly wanted to back up, but I stood my ground, finding the small comfort that he wasn't the monster from my dreams. Not now anyways, and not towards me.

That is what he would look like when I allowed him to bite me though.

Was I ready for this? Either way, I had already offered now, and I wasn't one to chicken out. I had a feeling that I would get teased so badly if I tried to back out.

Honestly, that wouldn't faze me. I had been teased my entire life. If I didn't want to do something then I wouldn't do it.

Peer pressure was never an issue for me. I wanted to do this. I had always been drawn to danger and excitement...the dark side, I guess.

I just never actually experienced it, always living it out in the stories that I wrote.

Colby reached out to me, looking worried that I might flinch away. I smiled at him comfortingly, and took his outstretched hand in mine, lacing our fingers together. He breathed a sigh of relief, his cool breath on my cheek as he leaned towards me.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to scare you." He shot a glare towards Elton. "Elton knows how to get under my skin and my feelings for you...I have to protect you against anyone."

I nodded, unsure of what to say. That was an intense reaction. I guess that's what he meant by he can't control himself when his emotions take over...but he came back for me so this was okay.

 It would be okay.

"You still wanna do this? You really don't have to." He said, staring into my eyes, expecting me to say no. I could tell.

I nodded again and tried to form the words.

"Yes. I still want to do this. For you. Can we go now though before I get too anxious?" I think I was starting to shake a little.

He nodded, and looked towards Sam and Corey.

 "Okay, let's go."

We all walked out of the garage and up the stairs, the three human girls with their vampire boyfriends.

We stopped in the hallway, between Sam and Colby's rooms. Colby turned towards the guys.

"If you hear anything that might sound like she's in pain, or no sound at all coming from her, then you bust in. You stop me. Do NOT let me hurt her. PLEASE." The last word came out in a pleading tone, instead of the demanding one that he had started with. "Promise me." He and Sam were staring at each other, with their blue eyes locked together.

"Brother...I promise," Sam replied, grasping Colby's shoulder for a moment.

"Don't worry, you'll be fine." Kat whispered in my ear as Devyn just gave me a reassuring smile. "It only stings for a second and then you just feel...amazing."

I smiled the best I could, but I'm sure it came out more like a grimace. I really just wanted them to go away now, into Sam's room so that we could get this over with. The anticipation leading up to it was the worst part, making me so anxious that my hands wouldn't stop shaking.

I think that Devyn saw it on my face.

"Okay guys, let's give them their privacy." She took Corey's arm and led him towards Sam's room, while Kat did the same.

Sam and Colby exchanged glances one last time, before his door shut and Colby opened his bedroom door for me to enter. I walked past him and went straight to the bed. I didn't know how to do this or what to expect but the bed seemed like the best bet if I happened to pass out or something.

He closed the door and followed me, sitting next down close to me. He opened his mouth to speak but I stopped him, holding up my hand.

"Don't," I replied, not wanting to hear him say that I didn't have to do this one more time.

I tilted my head to the side, baring my neck to him. I saw him close his eyes for a moment and inhale deeply. His head moved towards me and I braced myself for the pain that I thought was coming.

Instead, I felt his soft full lips graze my skin, and set it on fire. The slight groan that I heard escape his throat did nothing to dull the flames.

"Can't wait," he whispered, and I gasped as I felt his sharp teeth scrape the delicate skin along my carotid.
