"Good luck finding anything. I need to go grocery shopping tomorrow," I replied to Kat.
My stomach growled when I thought about food.
When was the last time that I had eaten? Jesus. I needed to start taking better care of myself.
I grabbed a couple of granola bars out of the cabinet and threw one to Kat.
"You know where I'll be if you need me. Love you."
"Love you right back bitch and same." She exclaimed catching the granola bar.
She laid back on the couch, grabbed the remote and started scrolling through Youtube. I smiled, and walked back to my room. I stretched out on my bed, with my laptop, and started writing...or typing.
I typed until my eyes went blurry, letting me know that I needed to sleep. My stomach growled again. Guess that granola bar wasn't enough.
I stretched and walked into the kitchen to grab another one. Kat was passed out on the couch, the remote still in her hand. A random kitten video was playing on the TV.
I got my food, and walked back to my room. Knowing I was going to sleep soon, I went to the bathroom so that I wouldn't have to get up later.
The bandage on my neck caught my eye in the mirror when I flicked on the light. I gently pulled it down, examining it again. It was bad, but not as bad as I originally thought.
The skin around the jagged lines was puffy and bruised, tender to the touch. That night flashed in my mind as I looked at the wound. I would do it all over again just for that memory.
I missed Colby. His smell of cologne, mint, and just him. His blue hair falling over his eyes when he looked at me.
The silver ring flexing when I stared into his eyes. That little smirk that he would give me when he knew that he had said something perverted that made me blush.
I sighed, then grabbed my first aid kit to replace the bandage. Afterwards, I laid down, putting my laptop on some music, and ate my granola bar.
I watched the music videos on my playlist until I drifted off to sleep. My dreams were clouded with the darkness.
Colby was there. I could feel him somewhere but I couldn't find him. I searched and searched, calling his name, wanting him to help me find my way out of the dark.
Eventually, I heard his voice. "It's okay baby girl, I'm here."
I felt his arms surround me, and I lay my head on his chest. After that I slept peacefully.
I woke the next day, sunlight streaming in through my window, warming my face. I had forgotten to close the curtain I guess.
My laptop was on my bedside table, and my blankets were pulled free from the mattress, from my fitful sleep.
I remembered the dream very well and it left me unsettled. Kat was already awake, sitting on the couch, playing on her phone.
"What time is it?" I asked sleepily, rubbing my eyes.
She glanced up at me.
"It's almost 4. What time do you have to be at work?"
I groaned. "At 5. Staying till 11 since it's the weekend."
I had spoken with Jeff yesterday before everything happened, to be sure that I still had a job. I know that Colby said that he spoke to him, but honestly, that worried me even more, so I had to speak with him myself and see when he wanted me back at work. He didn't usually work nights, but he said that he would be there tonight, covering for one of the other girls, Kristen. She had some family stuff and wouldn't be in.
I was fine working with Jeff. We got along great usually. I knew that he had a crush but he hadn't really made me uncomfortable with it, besides the last time I was at work and Colby showed up.
That seemed like such a long time ago.
"You should hurry then. You know how this LA traffic is. I'm going to go see Sam while you're at work. Just let me know when you're leaving and I'll meet you back here."
I shook my head. "It's fine. You don't have to. I know you have work tomorrow anyways, and probably don't want to do all that driving. Just grab your stuff and stay with Sam tonight. I'll just see you tomorrow or something."
I felt like I would be okay on my own now. The first part of my night was ragged, but the rest of the night I slept amazing. It made me feel better.
"If you're sure?" She looked at me questioningly.
I nodded and smiled.
"I'm sure. Go have fun with Sam, ya freak."
She laughed as I winked at her. "You're feeling better then?"
"Yeah...I slept amazingly after the nightmares stopped. I'm not sure why they stopped, but afterwards, I slept like a baby."
"Hmmm" She replied, looking back at the balcony doors.
"What?" I asked, looking behind her to see what she was looking at.
She turned back to me with a smile.
"Nothing. Thought I heard something. I'll see you later then girl. Better hurry and get dressed!"
"Shit," I exclaimed, realizing how little time I actually had.
She laughed and kissed my cheek, then walked out the door. It felt weird to be alone now. I hurriedly changed into my uniform, and put my makeup on, covering the bruises that were still littered on my skin.
There. Besides the bandage on my neck, I looked almost normal. I could be a vampire judging by the shadows under my eyes, but the makeup pretty much covered that up.
I still had thirty minutes before I was supposed to be at work. The cafe wasn't far from here but traffic could make it an hour long ride, especially at this time of day. I rushed out the door, locking it behind me.
I was only ten minutes late, but I was still late. I rushed in the doors, seeing Jeff behind the counter.
There was a line, so I grabbed my apron and wrapped it around my waist, tying it as I hurried behind the counter.
"I was beginning to think you weren't coming."
