A/N: just a little detail, but when Akira is in the Kurama's chakra mode, she is like Naruto except that her Strength of a Hundred seal is visible, I mean the black markings all over her body, not the seal itself because it's hidden by her forehead protector. And just like Kushina when she is angry her hair forms the nine tails of Kurama when she is in this mode, so it's pretty much like on the picture above. And that's all for that.
"Mai, please look at me," Kakashi demanded as he turned the woman around after making her stand up.
But Mai's vision was completely blurry due to all the tears she had been shedding.
Meanwhile the Jūbi was about to throw another Tailed Beast ball at them. But before it could do anything, Ino got a grip on herself as she had been crying for her father's death and she used her mind transfer technique on Obito to stray the ball from its course.
"Mai..." Kakashi repeated her name again before wiping all her tears away with his thumb.
Mai's shaking had lessened by now, and she was only trembling slightly presently.
"Everyone needs you here, so you have to get a grip on yourself!"
Mai stared back at him with expressionless eyes.
"I know," she said, finally getting a grip on herself. "I'm sorry. It's just that...." she then trailed off.
"I know Mai, but a war is a war. You won't be able to save everyone, but at least you can try to limit the damage."
Mai kept staring at his dark eyes in silence before she hugged him tightly without warning.
"Thank you, Kakashi," Mai said gratefully as she closed her eyes. Kakashi hugged her back even more tightly, desperate for physical contact with her.
"Mai... I thought you..." he trailed off desperately. Then, next thing Mai knew, Kakashi's warm lips met hers. She hadn't even had time to realise that he had removed his mask.
Mai kissed him back and their tongues danced gracefully with each other, battling for dominance. She grabbed his hair in the process and squeezed it. But she broke the kiss not long after, realising what they were doing, and where....
"Kakashi...." she trailed off. "We're in the middle of a war...." she said after catching her breath.
Kakashi stared at her intently before pulling his mask back on.
"I'm sorry.... I'm just so relieved that you are back among us and safe...."
Mai gave him a weak smile.
"No, it's me, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have left you like that......"
Meanwhile Naruto was ready to counterattack, as he intended to keep his word. He wasn't going to let anyone else die.
However, the Jūbi suddenly threw numerous stakes, therefore killing many shinobi on the battlefield pretty fast, and several of them were now aiming at Naruto. Hinata saw it, and she literally pounced on him so he wouldn't get hurt. But Neji saw it too, and he jumped toward Hinata to protect her and was hit by the stakes.
"Neji Nii-san!!!" Hinata cried once she saw what he had just done. Naruto quickly caught him into his arms so he wouldn't fall.
"Someone!!! Help!!!" Naruto shouted, but no one came to help. Everyone present was watching the scene helplessly, even Sakura. Neither did Mai go help him. Just like Naruto, she was frozen in her spot and just too shocked to even move.
"Neji...." he uttered completely distraught, wide eyed. "Why... Why did you do that.....?"
"Naruto, Lady Hinata is ready to give her life to protect you. She loves you...."
