Rayne's POV

I quickly made my way behind the counter and tied on an apron that was neatly folded behind the counter-top. Olga was sat at the table with Iris as I wandered over to the table asking,

"Hi, my name is Rayne. I'm new here, is there anything I can get you ma'am?" Olga smiled at me as Iris responded,

"It's Iris my dear and could I get a tea with no milk and one cube of sugar. The tea bag left in please." I nodded and took a mental note, realising how handy a notepad would be now.

"And Olga, would you like anything?" I asked and she nodded, before responding.

"I'll have a regular filter coffee, three sugars and milk please." I nodded one again taking a mental note before bidding them well and heading over to the coffee machine. I quickly threw a tea bag in a clean white mug and placed it under the hot water dispenser. I then added the the cube of sugar and stirred it in and placed it on a cute ornate, floral tray. I then quickly made Olga's coffee and placed that on the tray. I then called over,

"Olga, Iris would you like a biscuit with your drinks." They both nodded and I placed one each on the tray and headed over with the tray. I handed them their drinks and wandered over to Illeya. Who was watching me intently. Indigo jumped up on my knees and I petted her as I looked up at Leya.

"Mrs Alekseev may I order a drink?" He remarked and I glared at him responding,

"Its not Alekseev yet Leya. I'm still very much a Marshall and will proudly call myself one until we are married. Don't get ahead of yourself." Olga and Iris chuckled and I flushed a bright red. "Anyway, what would you like to drink Mr Alekseev?"

He chuckled and then asked, "Could I have a filter coffee, you know how I like it. And could you grab our pup here a bowl of water she seems a bit thirsty." I nodded and headed to the staff room first and found a bowl and filled it with water and placed it on the counter-top and then made Illeya's coffee just the way he liked it. I headed over with the coffee and water and he was right. She was indeed thirsty, and had her head stuck in the bowl of water almost immediately. He took his coffee and pecked my cheek before I returned back to the counter. I quickly opened my bag and rummaged around inside, looking for my phone when I stumbled across a plastic bag, I pulled it out of my bag and found it filled with dog treats. I held it and then asked Iris,

"Hey Iris, do you want to give Indigo a treat. She'll be your friend forever after this." She nodded and wandered over to the table and placed the bag on it. Illeya let go of Indigo who came running over to me and sat by my feet. Iris handed her a treat, which Indigo ate out of her hand before nuzzling up to her. My work was done.

The day pretty much stayed like that, Iris was our only customer of the day and we spent most of it talking to her and Olga and her getting to know Indigo and Illeya, it was lovely. I have never enjoyed work as much as I have here and it was a welcome and refreshing change. That night,me and Illeya ordered takeout and sat by the fire with Indigo. It was a lovely day.

...

The next morning when I woke, I decided that I would look into the adoption process. I didn't have to go to work today as the shop was shut on Sundays and  Illeya was home so after I had showered, shaved and all that jazz, I took an apple from the kitchen and made a mug of tea before heading up to mine and Illeya's hidden cove. I sat on the armchair and researched all the basics on my laptop writing down notes on a pad of paper as I went. As I expected it was a somewhat long and complicated procedure.  And a costly one at that. But money wasn't a problem for us thankfully. It could take anywhere from three to twelve months and would require a lot of background checks and paperwork. But I was prepared for it.

I spotted tufts of Illeya's hair peeking up over the floorboard as he entered the 'cove'. He smiled at me carrying a mug of coffee in hand as made his way into the room.  He sat on the bed and watched me as I shut the laptop and placed it on the floor by my feet, picking my tea off of the floor. I took a sip and curled my feet up onto the chair. His smile grew as he sipped his coffee.

"So what were you looking at?" He asked and I handed my notepad to him. He skimmed through it. His gaze was solely on the notepad. He then asked, "What age group do you want to adopt?" My eyes met his ans i slowly responded,

"Teens, anywhere from ten to sixteen really. I just feel as if once a kid grows up they don't get a chance of being adopted. Everyone wants a baby or a young child but I really feel like we could help them more. Even if they know that we are not their biological parents." Illeya nodded and then took a breath,

"I seriously thought that you would all be for babies but I guess that I was wrong. But I'm all up for this though, it would help them. It's an amazing idea Rayne." My smile grew and I got off the chair and placed my mug down on the bedside table and sat next to him, nuzzling my head in his shoulder.

Just as my lips were about to meet his, Indigo started barking and I sighed and headed down with Leya, I heard a loud knock on the door and quickly went to go answer it. Indigo trailed at my feet as I opened the door.

I felt sick to my stomach, my head spun. My lungs felt as if they had collapsed and my blood ran cold turning to ice.

"Happy to see me sweet cheeks."
