MJ was wrapping up her summer travels in a blissful whirlwind of events. Slightly bittersweet and unnaturally stressful, but bliss.

'Bittersweet' because the more places she went, the more she wished she wasn't doing the trip on her own.

Part of MJ felt like she should've dragged Tyler along with her, but in reality, that might've just made it worse. She was supposed to be seeing the world with Kol, and she had to get over the fact she wasn't. He was dead. She couldn't do anything about that, and could she really let herself get that hung up on a ghost?

The answer to that question was yes, she could.

She was very much hung up on a ghost, returning to the creepy Witch Doctor website she'd been put off the previous summer, ordering a book on resurrection magic, knowing they specialised in the dark arts, but needing to feed her delusion of saving him somehow.

She let herself look at one spell every few days, outlining all the ways it wouldn't work, then putting it away until the next time.

MJ hoped the feeling would get better once she was back in The States. She'd be in New Orleans, on her vengeance quest with Klaus, living it up, and meeting new people, and maybe she'd feel the absence of her person a little less.

She'd breathe in, she'd breathe out, the world would keep spinning, and she'd be okay.

She always ended up okay – even when MJ was a crying mess in her Prom dress, screaming about how she wasn't anywhere close to over her parent's death, she was able to get back up and keep on living.

The stress of the final few weeks came from the growing number of people she was worried about, getting Caroline to send her Stefan's blood and an unspecified vial, picking them up before getting on her flight to the Philippines.

The unspecified vial was Katherine's.

MJ had landed, prepping her spell while leaving a voicemail for Katherine Pierce.

"If this was some masterplan you came up with to prove that I still care about you, congratulations," She had the phone on the table while unravelling a world map, "Jeremy's alive. You took the cure. Karma has kicked you down, and even if I think you deserved it, I don't want you to be dead."

She paused to close her eyes.

"I'm worried, Kat."

The truth of the situation.

"You have a lot of enemies and no super strength or speed, and I'm overthinking all the things the cure might've done to you."

The two vials were staring up at MJ from the hotel room table.
