a/n: Remember Katherine doesn't actually die :)

MJ never actually made it to the dorm room that afternoon. Instead, she got a phone call from Stefan.

"Katherine just had a heart attack...you need to get to the Hospital."

She rushed through the doors, scanning for Stefan's familiar face. It was two lefts, then a right, then an obnoxiously long corridor to get to the small set of waiting room chairs next to an operating room, where he was standing, watching the doctors work through a glass screen.

"What the hell's going on?" MJ hissed, stepping towards the window.

Stefan's hand was on her shoulder, "They're trying to get her heart working."

"I can see that," She watched the defibrillator get pressed to her chest, "Processing - somewhat rhetorical."

Inhale.

"How long have you known about the ageing?"

"Two days."

The day before, MJ had come back to town.

So Katherine hadn't been telling people.

Okay.

MJ could maybe accept that. Kol had been spying on that one conversation, hence how he'd been able to tell her while no one else had.

Another shock against her chest.

MJ closed her eyes, left hand swaying back and forth by her side.

They were joined by a third. Nadia. Katherine's living and breathing child, panicking about the mother she'd spent centuries looking for actually dying. Dying. Katherine was dying, and there were two doctors and a nurse desperately trying to stop her heart attack.

"It doesn't make sense," Nadia shook her head, "I was just speaking with her. She sounded fine."

"The doctors think it was a heart attack," Stefan was keeping his calm, so neither of them had to.

"Trust me," Nadia growled, "Katherine Pierce is not going to die of a heart attack."

"Damn right she's not," MJ' hand was still swaying, "Varo Veislu Vareser Tírisi."

"What are you doing?" Stefan whispered.

"Varo Veislu Vareser Tírisi."

The lights over their head flickered.

"MJ," Stefan warned, "You're showing."

She switched tactics, "Tarado Pulsatio."

The machine Katherine was strapped to finally registered a pulse.

Nadia straightened up, "You brought her back?"

"No," MJ opened her eyes, "She's not dead. I just got her heart to remember that."

A heartbeat control spell, not being used to stop her own heart for once.

"Originally, I was preserving her body, but unless she has a heartbeat to preserve, that won't do anything."

The doctors started moving around, getting an oxygen mask on her face.

"I don't get why she didn't tell me," She muttered, hand looping through the ring on her necklace, following every movement carefully, "I have Qetsiyah's book. I could've been looking for a solution this entire time."

"My mother will fight this," Nadia tried to sound confident.

"She's dying," Stefan looked her dead in the eye, "Every single organ in her body is failing. Vampire blood can't save her."
