Dean dug in his pocket for the key to the motel room. He and Marley had talked for over an hour at the diner and a small smile still remained on his face. As he inserted the key into the lock he realized the door was already unlocked. He whipped his head around and saw the impala in the parking lot. He swallowed the stone that had suddenly appeared in his throat and raised a shaky hand to the door knob.

A creak pierced the room as he slowly opened the door. His dad was sitting on the bed, not looking at him, his gaze focused on the gun in his hands.

Dean shut the door and moved towards the bathroom, hoping to buy a few seconds.

"Enjoy yourself?"

Dean froze. Slowly he turned around to face his dad. Opening his mouth to answer, his dad cut him off by cocking the handgun. Dean flinched.

"I thought I told you to stay in the room." John's voice was dangerously calm. Dean knew it all too well.

He swallowed.

"I wanted some air." His voice was barely a whisper.

But John shook his head.

"Dad-"

"What have I told you?" John's voice rose.

Dean's jaw clenched. He balled his fingers into fists behind his back. But he hesitated too long.

"WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU?"

"Stay in the motel." Dean muttered.

The bed springs creaked. John's footsteps were light but to Dean they sounded like gunfire. He flinched again as his dad leaned down into his face.

"Why is it so difficult for you to follow orders?" His breath smelled like smoke and burned Deans nose.

"I'm, I'm sorry." Dean refused to meet his fathers gaze. "Sir, I'm sorry, sir."

John grunted and walked over to the table, grabbing the keys to the impala.

"I figured out who the monster is, let's go."

"You want me to come with?"

"Unless you had other plans." John's voice was harsh as he looked over at Dean.

"No sir."

"Good. Let's go."

The Winchester's walked out to the car and Dean slid into the passenger seat. They began the drive in silence and Dean flipped through his dad's research trying to catch himself up on the case.

"So this Gretchen..." Dean trailed off trying to find her name again.

"Fletcher." John supplied. "Gretchen Fletcher."

"She's a shapeshifter."

"I told you that earlier."

"So how do you kill a shapeshifter?"

"'Bout time you asked a decent question." Dean ground his teeth. "Silver."

"Bullet or blade?" Dean went back to looking through the research.

"Both work, straight to the heart. Anything silver will burn their skin."

Dean finally came upon a picture of the woman and he paused. She looked familiar and he looked down at her occupation. The lady was a waitress. Not just any waitress, the one that had gotten him and Marley their milkshakes.
