"What do you think, princess?"

Laying at the very center of the bed with my limbs spread out like a starfish I lift my head to see Lucas, who's leaning on the frame of the opened door with arm crossed over his chest, before letting my head fall back again.

Yesterday, it didn't end up well nor bad as I expected to be.

I huffed remembering Jiro's story.

"I just turned ten when my parents sold me to a noble in exchange for a sack of gold coins to pay for my sister's treatments and other fees in the hospital. I don't remember what happened after I became a slave but I think it's something to do with my face. I remember escaping, running in the forest afraid and so much pain. . . I think there were dogs chasing me trying to bite and to tear my flesh, then there were screams everywhere, not just mine. . . I- I'm sorry that's all I could remember, all I know was waking up in a small house near the Lost Forest, I was already at the age of 14 back then.

"The old man who saved me took me under and made me his apprentice. He was a retired physician and taught me everything he knew about medicinal herbs. I owe him a lot that's why I did everything I could just to help him when he became sick a year after. The old man couldn't handle the stench of the medicine he was taking that he always threw it up. I couldn't just sit watch my master die, it took me weeks of little to no sleep in recreating a medicine that was perfect for him; crystal clear fluid, no odor, tasteless like water. . .

"It was never near perfect but a complete utter failure that led him to his death. The medicine-no, the poison will kill the body slowly in painless and undetected effect until they enter endless slumber.

"One of the regular costumers of the old man was Lady Farrell's mother, she has gotten hold of the poison after I told her the truth. Deceiving me with sweet assuring words that everything will be alright. I- I didn't. . I wasn't. . . It was too late. . . I really am sorry. I was ready to turn myself to the authorities and tell the truth of the Queen's death but the woman kidnapped me, lock me away from the world, and became that I am now."

"You got an idea about his past, don't you, princess," Lucas said entering at my line of sight, a playful smile rest on his face. "You know, you should be more careful sneaking out in the middle of the night when you're reprimanded to stay in your room by your father."

He eyed the books, papers, and maps on the table next to the bed.

"Good thing the maid who saw you reported to me and not to his majesty."

"Thank you," I said and I meant it. "How is he?"

"He went to the Queen's grave this morning and haven't come back yet." His emerald eyes stared towards the night sky over the window with a sorrowful gaze. "Don't worry, princess, he'll be alright again. He- he just needs more time."

Those consoling words were more for himself ensuring that he needs not to be worry than he is now.

"The night may have fallen upon your family's heart, his majesty's heart, but it will pass and the sun will rise again," Lucas said then his gaze turned to me with a soft encouraging smile. "Right, princess?"
