Something damaged a water pipe outside of town yesterday, and when a crew went to repair it, they were attacked by a whole mess of mantises. My boys and I drove them off, but we were too late to save the engineers.
I know it sounds crazy, but I think those mantises cut through that pipe on purpose to draw us out. If I'm right, then I'm more concerned about them than anything.
In the stories about Big Owl and Coyote, Big Owl was the huge, scary one, but Coyote was more dangerous because he was clever. He'd trick man and monster alike, and everyone feared him. I never believed those stories, but I sure remember the lesson.

Algo dañó una tubería de agua en las afueras de la ciudad ayer, y cuando un equipo fue a repararla, fueron atacados por todo un lío de mantis. Mis muchachos y yo las echamos, pero era demasiado tarde para salvar a los ingenieros.
Sé que suena loco, pero creo que esas mantis cortaron esa tubería a propósito para sacarnos. Si estoy en lo cierto, entonces estoy más preocupado por ellas que por cualquier otra cosa.
En las historias sobre Big Owl y Coyote, Big Owl era el enorme y aterrador, pero Coyote era más peligroso porque era inteligente. Engañaba a hombres y monstruos por igual, y todos le temían. Nunca creí esas historias, pero recuerdo la lección.
