Joey

That day's morning

Are we really done? Does Cameron not like me anymore? I've been thinking these over and over since our double date in the zoo.
It's true that he didn't actually tell me that he loved me. But I thought he did. Was I too oblivious? Was I too naive? He was sometimes so selfish he ditched me a couple of times, yet I loved his humor and flirty gestures... Ok, maybe I was played for real. Wanting to talk to him, I dialed his number more than 100 times along with hundreds of text messages, none of which he answered. He might have been in an accident. Oh my god! I'm so worried about him! Or maybe he's just avoiding me. No matter how much my shitty heart wants to believe he's physically not in the condition he's able to contact me, you and I both know the latter theory is the case. Another sigh.
Jo thinks our breakup is on Hero but I don't blame him for that at all. Probably I did something wrong which made him not like me anymore. God, it hurts so much. I didn't know breaking up with someone was this painful since this was my first official relationship.

Although all I want right now is to sleep all day and escape from this dreadful reality, I unfortunately have to work today so I can help my family even though it's Saturday. What's worse is Jo is not working today since she's going on a date with her dreamy prince, which I don't really feel good about. She hasn't realized this yet but I think she loves Hero judging from how she stares at him and talks about him. Knowing her stubborn ass, I don't ask her if she loves him or not since it's too obvious she will deny in the speed of light but I really hope she will notice her true feelings before it's too late.

The clock on my wall tells me it's 7 am, meaning I have to start preparing for my morning shift that starts at 8:30 am. Ugh. But my shift will end at noon so I have all the afternoon for myself. I can't wait to come home and curl up in my bed as I go to my fantastic dreams.

It was tough to work when your heart is broken as much as you can imagine if not more. I was glad the mall was really crowded today otherwise I would have bursted into tears in front of the register. As soon as Scarlett who is my store manager allows me to go home, I change my clothes and sprint to the bus stop. For your information, I don't have a car because my family is far from rich so I have to take buses to go everywhere. It sucks, you know?

When I turn the corner of the street, I bump into someone, who is the very man I wanted to talk to for a while to my surprise.
"Cameron!! Oh my god! I've been calling and texting you! Why didn't you answer any of them?"
I shout at him with both anger and relief. Contrast to my state, he looks too unaffected by my presence and just keeps his eyes on me with a blank expression.
"Do you know her?"
Unfamiliar female voice from near us catches my attention. She's wearing a black crop top with too short black pants. Her makeup is so smoky that it's impossible to even imagine her being free from any makeup. She looks much older than him, probably around 30. But she's beautiful. I roam my eyes carefully to figure out what is going on and realize her hand is intertwined with his like two people in love.
What the hell? My brain goes white as though every knowledge in it was erased by an eraser. Cameron casts his gaze to her and turns back to me.
"No. She's a complete stranger. But I might have seen her face once somewhere. Come on, let's go to the club and get wild already."
And he disappears with her. My heart ultimately shatters with an audible sound like a glass.

With trembling hands I call Jo, not having any other option. Thankfully, she picks up on the third ring.
"Hi, Joey!"
As I hear her voice, tears start rolling down my cheeks and I fully sob with giving up on standing and sitting on the sidewalk. Some pedestrians are staring at me, which is the least of my concerns though.
"J...Jo."
Her name manages to escape from my lips.
"What happened?"
She gently asks me in a worried voice.
"I... I met Cameron today by chance. And he... he was already with a beautiful older woman."
Gosh. Saying it out loud intensifies the pain in my chest. My tears quicken the speed to fall from my eyes. She takes a pause before speaking. She sounds more upset than earlier.
"I'm so sorry for what happened to you, Joey. Tell me where he is now and I'll persuade him that what happened in the zoo was Hero's and my fault not yours in person."
"You don't have to because he went to a club with that woman already!"
Hanging up the phone, I cry and cry for I don't know how long but tears don't seem to stop.
