I slept a couple hours, but after waking up I really couldn't sleep any more. I slowly get out of bed, careful not to wake up Tom. He's been so amazing throughout all of this, I'm so grateful to have him in my life.
Tessa's paws patter on the floor as she follows behind me into the kitchen. I put on the kettle, and pull out my phone to text Haz and check in.
After sending the text, I make my tea. I hear foot steps and look up, seeing Tom walk into the room with sleepy eyes.
"What are you doing up?" He asks.
"Couldn't sleep." I shrug.
He moves closer to me, and steals my cup of tea to take a sip. He then sets down the cup and grabs my hips, lifting me onto the counter top. His lips attach to my neck sloppily, and he hums against my skin. I know he misses me and everything being normal.. I wrap my arms around him, and my hand runs over the hair on the back of his head. He gives the best hugs.
He goes over to the freezer, opening it up and pulling out the ice cream.
"We need this." He says, and grabs two spoons.
He sets the ice cream down next to me, and hands me one of the spoons. I happily take a scoop and eat it, then kiss my husbands lips.
"What was that for?" He asks.
"For being the greatest person I know." I smile.
Toms has been our rock through this, he's the one who got us the surgeon and is dealing with all the work calls and reassigning our projects. He's taking care of everything so that Haz and I can have our grief. I seriously don't know how I would survive this without him.
"You know what happens tomorrow?" Tom asks as I take a bite of ice cream.
"What?" I ask.
"You start ovulating." He says.
"You're keeping track too?" I giggle.
"Well, it does mean that I get to have sex every day so yeah." He nods and I roll my eyes. "But I am also excited for our baby."
It's so hard for me to picture Tom and I with a baby of our own. It's always just been the two of us and Tess, in a way I still feel like we're young and immature. I'm ready to move on to this next chapter though. Even if it will completely change our lives.
"Okay, we should get one more hour of sleep before we go back to the hospital." He says.
He lifts me off the counter, and I wrap my legs around his torso. He kisses my face all over like he does, just to make me smile. Little moments like this with him make me completely forget everything bad that's happening. He is my safe place.

We head back to the hospital after about five hours, knowing she will probably still have an hour left in surgery. We get there, and see Haz asleep in the waiting room. I would have stayed here and let him go home to get some sleep, but I know there's no way he would leave even if I begged and pleaded.
"We should let him sleep." I whisper to Tom, sitting across from the sleeping boy.
Haz is a deep sleeper, and can sleep just about anywhere. I wish I had that superpower.
I lean my head against Toms shoulder, watching as he types out work emails. I have no clue how he's managed running his whole company through these past couple days, but he's done wonderfully.
I see him send the email to Keith Pierson, the CEO of Pierson enterprises. That's where Derek works now.. why is he emailing him?
"Tommy? Why are you emailing Keith Pierson?" I ask.
He quickly locks his phone to prevent me from seeing anymore, and I lift my head to look at him.
"Hes my competition, I like to keep up on what they're doing." He says.
It's no use, him and I both know that there's no competition between Pierson enterprises and Holland enterprises, we outshine them. We always will.
"This isn't about business Tom." I state.
"Don't get mad.." he sighs. "I'm trying to get Derek fired."
I can't help but let out a small laugh, Tom thinks too highly of me.
"Please as if I'd get mad about that." I scoff. "I hope it works!"
The door to the waiting room opens, and Doctor Miller walks in, her scrub cap now off which must mean the surgery is over. It's almost an hour early.. why would she be done early?..
"Haz wake up." I say, shaking him lightly.
Haz jumps slightly, but as soon as he becomes aware of his surroundings and that the doctor is now standing in front of us, he quickly becomes alert.
"How'd it go?" I ask.
"Is she alive?" Haz questions.
I can see how nervous he is..
"We had a few complications, she had some brain swelling.." She starts. "But Stassie is very much alive."
It's as if everything in the world comes back to normal, and that heavy feeling in my heart lifts. Stassie is alive. She is alive and tumor free.
"Oh my god.." Haz breathes out. "Thank you so much.."
"It's my pleasure." She smiles.
"Can we see her?" I ask.
"You can. Shes won't wake up for a bit though. Then we will have to come in and do some tests to make sure everything is okay and working the way it should be." She explains.
We walk back to Stassies room, and sit around her bed, waiting for her to wake. I can't believe she's actually okay and still alive, I think a big part of me thought she wasn't going to make it.. that was so scary. I am just so happy that she is okay.
Haz sits right at her side, holding her hand. I know he can't wait until she wakes up and is back to her old self.
I scroll through my phone, trying to pass the time. It's six, but it feels like it's the middle of the night. All of our sleep schedules are going to be so fucked.
I hear a small sound come from Stass, and stand up quickly. Her eyes squeeze shut, and I smile happily. She's awake!
Tom walks out the door to get the doctor and I stand on one side of the bed while Haz stands on the other.
"Stassie?" Haz says quietly.
She mumbles something, but I can't make out what she's saying. Her eyes open, and she instantly looks to Haz, looking a bit in a daze.
"Hi sweetheart." He smiles.
Doctor Miller walks in, Tom trailing behind her. Haz and I step back, giving her the space she needs to work.
"Hi Stassie, your surgery went well." She smiles.
"Wh- where am I?" Stass asks.
"You just had brain surgery, the anesthesia will ware off soon and you'll be more aware and alert." The doctor explains. "Follow my finger."
She moves her finger back and forth, and Stassies eyes follow. She then runs a light over her eyes, and checks her reflexes. Everything is checking out. She's okay! She's going to be okay!
"Can you tell me your full name?"
"Stassie Morgan Williams." She answers.
"And where do you live?"
"London." She mutters.
"Can you tell me who this is?" She asks, pointing to me.
Stassies eyes gaze over, and a smile forms on her face.
"That's my best friend, Lia." She says.
It feels so fucking good to have her back and see her smile.
"And who is this handsome man?" She now points to Haz.
She looks at Haz, and laughs lightly.
"That's her annoying friend Haz. No offense dude." She says and my brows knit together.
"What is yours and Haz's relationship?" The doctor questions.
"I guess we're friends." She mumbles. "I don't know him all that well."
Oh no...
"What?" Haz says, his voice cracking.
"Stassie, do you know what year it is?" Dr. Miller questions.
"2016? 2017?" She says.
"Stassie.. it's 2021.." I whisper.
Oh my god... has Stassie lost some of her memory?
