Elira sat down at her study table as Alder narrated the incident

The king and the crown princess had been engaged in recent times with various public activities
The king insisted he drive this time, the old country roads being his familiar ground,

A throwback to his glory days as a young prince.

She imagined his smile, as he recounted the days when he romped around

Carefree and wild

They found the car had hit the cliffside and had slipped down,

the mangled mess of metal hardly recognisable.

A lone tear rolled down Elira's cheek, a stark line down her blank face, as Alder recounted the tale.

The doctors had reported that the king had suffered a heart attack, the autopsy still underway.

and Kiana, a tragic loss

The country became unstable in less than a day, the news outlets being told to keep quiet till Elira was back on Avarian soil.

"But papa was alright. He has had no history of any heart issues or anything remotely related to a failure like this-"

"That is what's raising suspicion, your highness...," Alder bowed his head, "I'm sorry about that temporary slip, your majesty,"

Elira visibly flinched at that title

Her majesty

The new queen

Never in a million years had it occurred to her that this day would come.

The weight on her shoulders felt a thousand pounds heavier

"...His late majesty had undergone his monthly health checkup a couple of weeks prior to us leaving for Korea, with no sign of any health problems. Her Royal Highness, the Queen, brought another doctor, one not affiliated to the Royal court in any way, to do the autopsy," Alder paused, "I heard his majesty, the King of Korea, was gracious enough to fly his royal doctor the moment he heard the news a couple of hours back,"

"It's been hours? Hours since my father died and you only saw it fit to tell me now?"

"Your majesty I-"

"Leave," Elira said as she stood up from the table, walking up to one of the expansive windows which looked out into the sea

Alder bowed his head as he saw himself out, softly shutting the doors behind him.

Elira sank to her knees the moment she heard the door click.

....

"What?!" Yoongi almost yelled when he heard what his father had just said,

Ye-Jun gravely nodded, Aera standing next to him with a pensive expression

"How? Where? Wh-"

Ye-Jun carefully recounted the tale as Aera squinted her eyes shut

"Did he have a history or-?" Yoongi enquired

"Do you think it is proper etiquette for me to ask a newly widowed woman whether her late husband had some preexisting heart conditions when she calls me to deliver the news and ask a favour?" Ye jun asked, an eyebrow raised in question

Yoongi opened his mouth and shut it, looking at his feet.

Elira must be shaken up now

Yoongi couldn't imagine

A father and a sister

within the span of hours

Nobody saw it coming, not in the slightest

"I think I should see to the fact that all her things are packed up and that she's ready to leave," Aera said quietly as Ye jun continued, "I'll have her flight-ready as well..."

Aera nodded sadly before leaving the room, Yong saeng and Yoongi following behind her.

.....

Elira walked into the foyer in her black dress, her hands covered in silk gloves, her hair in a modest bun at the back of her head. She looked up and saw Yong Saeng and Yoongi bowing to her while the King and Queen looked at her in the eyes

The new sovereign.

A day had put her on a pedestal, head and shoulders above Yoongi

She walked up to the King and Queen.

"Thank you for having me and for everything. I will make sure to repay your kindness when the time comes, your majesty," Elira said with a short nod

"I am deeply saddened and terrified by the circumstances in which you're leaving us. And there's no need for thanks. It was our duty to help you as an ally and as people," Ye Jun said with a small polite smile
Aera went forward and took Elira's hands, "I hope you find the strength to overcome this and whatever else may be thrown to you in life. This new path may be hard, but I'm sure you will be able to give it justice,"
Elira blinked away her tears as she took a deep breath and smiled. She looked at Yoongi and gave him a small nod, before walking out the door, followed by Alder.

He watched her figure sit in the car, looking at him through the window, a weak smile on her face before the convoy pulled away.

"I don't want the crown. Not in the least. This lightweight weighs on my shoulders all the time I cannot imagine the actual one, " she had shuddered as she gingerly sipped the caramel liquid in her glass, the two of them drinking again to warm their bodies from the cold

Yoongi leaned forward in his seat, "I don't want this one either and it's not even that heavy. I'd rather be a nobody who made music all the time. Imagine me as a producer, or in a more unlikely case, an idol,"

"I don't think that seems that far fetched, You being an Idol,"

Yoongi scoffed at the thought, "I can barely play the piano in front of other people but now you're suggesting I'd be okay dancing and singing in front of large crowds of screaming people?"

"Why the heck not? You've never done it, so how can you say it's not a possibility. Maybe in an alternate timeline, Min Yoongi is an Idol,"

"Perhaps, but I don't think so," Yoongi said with a smile as he finished off the rest of his drink.

Yoongi sighed as he turned around and headed back inside

So much changed at the drop of a hat.

A/N:
The amount of love coincidences receives on the daily makes me think I did something right when I wrote it.

And I couldn't be more grateful...

I high-key want to take it down sometimes because I cannot read it without dying of cringe

but then again, that was me of then and I am not ashamed of writing it in the least

not when it makes so many people happy.

Vote and comment, I Appreciate it LOTS

A LOT A LOT
