So our MC transmigrates into anc​​ient times as a weak scholar. This scholar just bought a wife, a very...manly ger wife so he can order him around, make him do the heavy work for him etc. Our shou is not the standard, delicate ger so he thinks he's very ugly...but our MC just happens to like him like this! He thinks shou's height, muscles etc is very sexy!! Yum!! So began their lovey dovey life.

Our MC is the typical protagonist in novels: promoting agriculture, introducing new foods, there's also the 'owning a restaurant' trope. And since he is a scholar, there's also studying for the imperial exam. MC slowly builds his wife's self-confidence and trust that he likes him for real. Laters, shou remembers his past (he's amnesiac at first) and has to go back as the eldest (ger) son of the General's household so they separate. Him and MC's positions are too far apart so after MC passes the imperial exam and became champion, he wants to make contributions in court to raise his rank.

MC participates in disaster relief, prevents locust pest from spreading. He also became a military advisor in the border where shou is stationed and taught them strategies, makes weapons etc. (Go protagonist!) After winning the border war, MC goes home first to report to the Emperor. Laters, shou also goes back to the Capital with the troops. After his merits, MC's rank increased and he married his wife again with great fanfare ^^

Extras is MC and shou's marriage, then shou giving birth to twins~ And the love story of the side CP. There's also a modern arc, which still seemed unfinished so not sure if this is still ongoing or completed already.

Overall, this is a very...'cool' novel cos our MC's career/studies is smooth all the way. I especially like MC and shou's lovey dovey couple. MC is very frank with his affections and shou is very shy, very cute! Not a fan of bara so I found it quite hard to think of a larger/more muscular shou x weak scholar gong, but shou's easy-to-be-shy personality helps fix that (definitely the shou!). MC doesn't really stick to gender roles. In his mind, shou is the coolest when he's fighting/in battle so he let his wife do it if he wants to, while MC is in charge of cooking at home.

Nearest reco is Transmigrating to the Ancient Times with Lu's Convenience. Manly shou and virtuous business-minded gong that later became an official. 

Also tried Transmigration: The Farm Life of a "Fool" (dropped after 20+ chaps) but didn't really like the MC there (I dunno, we just don't click. Sorry!) but it also has a gong MC with a manly shou.
