Synopsis:

Felix continuously had the same nightmare.

He was back in the interrogation room, his hands tied behind his back in heavy fetters, his feet chained to an iron chair, and his thin cloth robe drenched. In the damp prison, he was barefoot on the stone floor, shivering with cold. The wounds on his knees were sutured to stop the bleeding, but the pain penetrated into the bone. The marks on his thighs and back were so red and swollen that he had to stretch his shoulders and stand on tiptoe to minimize contact with the chair.

Someone was talking outside the door. He vaguely heard a string of numbers, which were the numbers he was given when he was thrown into the dungeon. Those people also said 'peace talks,' 'agreements,' 'Temple group intervention,' 'counting prisoners' and so on. Then, the door creaked open and a familiar figure came in, the face he was most afraid of——

King Capital's Knight Sean Clayson. He was tall and cold, with long pale gold hair tied at the back of his head, and his facial features were as delicate as those of an elf portrayed by a court painter.

So our MC is a battle mage, his friend and Lord he was serving tried to rebel/assassinate the royal family. A war broke out and he was blackmailed to participation. Laters, MC was captured by the other side and as a prisoner, of course, he would be interrogated. The interrogator? Our ML.

Laters, the war ended, the jerk Lord died/was defeated. MC was pardoned and ML took him to live in his house. He is trying to befriend MC and make him move on from the past, but MC can't, cos ML is dangling in front of him like a constant reminder.

They went back to MC's hometown and #SPOILER, MC was given a letter from the former lord (He was also MC's ex btw, but the jerk Lord married for power). Turns out that the Lord left a spell on the letter to seize MC's body (jerrrrkkk!!) and because ML opened the letter, jerk Lord controlled ML's body instead. MC enters ML's consciousness and returned to his days on interrogation. He realizes that ML was also kind to him, he used torture and interrogation for the enemy but he never went over what MC's body can tolerate, he never inflicted permanent damage on his body and when he passed out, they would apply medicine on him. To wake up ML, they had to kill jerk Lord's soul so they fought side by side this time. Afterwards, MC is slowly recovering from his instinctive rejection of ML.  They also finally get together. HE

From the title, I thought it would be a sadistic ML x weak/pitiful shou, but ML is actually this kind and sunshiney dude. Surprisingly serious, but no heavy drama (and no smut). The background story was also all very fleshed-out without coming off as info dump. The ending was open-ended, just MC and ML entering into a relationship but its also satisfying since MC is now starting to move on~
