386. The Cannon Fodder Doesn't Want to Die

Synopsis:

Yu Ze was in a car accident in his original world and ended up being completely paralyzed, the doctors consider him in a vegetative state. While he can still hear what everyone around him is saying, he does not have the ability to respond. So when an AI calling itself System 02 appears in his brain, telling him he can get all functions of his body back, Yu Ze jumps at the chance. System 02 explains to him that he has to pass through several worlds as the cannon fodder who dies early. His mission is to live as these cannon fodders and survive past the original time when they die.

Impressions: Haven't read QT BL for awhile so chose a relatively short one. Completely translated too! So I don't have to break my brain to MTL.

So our MC gets into an accident and becomes completely paralyzed. He gets approached by a System and gets an offer to be a Host. He has to survive past the time when the original was supposed to die (MC is usually given a 100 days before the 'death' day).

Arc 1 - Phoenix Awakened (Chapters 1-30) - Futuristic world, where people awaken their ancestor genes and are able to transform into beast forms. MC becomes a distant relative of the Feng Family, OG awakened his Phoenix ancestor genes. His Uncle sells him to the zombies since the heart of the Awakened are good tonic to them or something. As per my tag, our MC is timid so his first option was to pretend not to be Awakened. When that doesn't succeed, he pretends that his awakening was a failure but again, he still gets found out. Finally, thru ML's family's help, he was able to report his Uncle's collusion with zombies. ML awakens as a Dragon.

Arc 2 - I'm Not a Vampire (Chapter 31-42) - Modern world but with vampires/werewolves. OG is an Undercover agent who pretended to be a vampire and approached ML to kill him. When his identity is revealed, he's the one who gets killed instead. MC comes in and our vampire ML reeeaaally likes him, such a cute/soft/obedient newborn dependent to him. Laters, MC's identity as an agent is exposed and our ML's heart is hurt cos he thinks MC approached him with ulterior motives. In order to protect ML, MC has no choice but to betray his Boss who ordered the kill.

Arc 3 - My Tears Are Pearls (Chapter 43-55) - Interstellar. MC becomes a mermaid. OG was caught by an auction house and was tortured and abused in order to make him cry pearls. When they found out that he can change into human, he gets sent into a research institute. MC comes in and escapes but runs into ML. ML helps MC get justice. MC also helps ML by identifying who are the Zerg spies among the military (using mermaid mental powers).

Arc 4 - Saving the Cannonfodder CEO (Chapter 56-68) - Modern world. OG is a little star. ML is a disabled CEO. ML is framed by his nephew that he is unfit to manage the company. Later, its reported that ML committed suicide. MC's mission this time is not about saving the original, but saving ML. Before the mission, the System made him choose a Talent and MC chose Medical Talent which comes in handy in this one. MC worked as ML's caretaker, healings his legs, improving his diet etc. #SPOOIIILLLERRR MC goes back to the real world after the mission since ML paid for the needed points for him (ML is also a System worker). Then ML goes to MC's world to meet him.

It's sweet~ especially when ML paid for the points to cure MC in the Real World, since he was worried that maybe in future mission worlds, MC would work hard for him again (like taking care of the disabled CEO). Awww... Hmm.. what else? it's pretty nice~ some of the arcs are unique enough, like the world setting in the 1st arc so its pretty memorable. I didn't actually like MC's approach at first (he's timid!) but he kinda grows on you, his personality is like that so it triggers ML's instinct to proteccccct. Lol. And I'm glad there's no BE! I need this kind of fluff!
