Adrian's P.O.V

As soon as I left the pack building, I knew where she would be. That witch. It was almost like my wolf was being called to her, like a gravitational pull.

My wolf growled and in one motion emerged to the surface, transforming me on all fours and dashing through the forest to get to where she was standing. I was already seeing red, sprinting in full stride, my teeth bare and ready to draw blood. The closer I got to the force of her power, the more I began to hurt, my wolf finally realising that the reason we were going to her was because she had ruined our mate bond.

As soon as it hit us, my wolf stopped in mid-air, falling to the ground with a whistling whimper. How could we have forgotten? Why, when I was in the pack house just inches away from Ailani, why did we not see her as our mate?
My wolf mourned in defeat as he felt the remnants of our broken bond, and for a moment I felt as though my wolf was never going to get back up again.

"Alpha, you must stand."

A large paw nudged me in the side, whimpering slightly, scared to see its Alpha in such a weak state. I heard him through the bond, Christopher; my best soldier. The nudging did not stop until I was back on all fours, and when I finally stood, I could see that there were others that had joined him: 5 in total, one that I recognised as Marcus, a large brown wolf with silver eyes. The others were new to me, and my wolf nodded at them in appreciation. They were here to protect me.

"Alpha, you must not go alone!" Christopher warned me, stepping by my side. "She is too dangerous, we cannot lose our leader."

He was right, in the midst of the outrage the witch had caused me, somewhere she had ruined my focus and my rational thinking. I was vulnerable to say the least, she had me wrapped around her fingertips.

"Will you stay close behind?" I said, looking deep into the forest; aware of the sense of power I could still feel.

"We will be right beside you, Alpha." Christopher said, his voice obedient and honourable.

With a slight nod, I took off into a new sprint; the sound of paws hitting the forest floor behind me, lifting my spirits up.

Katie's P.O.V

"The manager of the hotel has booked you first class tickets back to your home, first thing tomorrow. He advises you pack your bags now."

Rhea had come back in the room, her eyes a sore kind of red. She spoke like a professional assistant, all signs of friendship gone and forgotten about.
She gave the instructions quickly, and left the room with nothing but a slight nod of respect.

I left the room and followed her down the hallway.

"Rhea, wait. Aren't you going to say goodbye?"

When Rhea turned to face me her eyes were oozing waterfalls. "You and me both know that no one should be saying goodbye. This isn't right, Katie. She is my Alpha's mate."

Katie sighed and nodded in understanding. "Look; I'm new to all this werewolf stuff, and I know that she is important to you. But Ailani is my best friend, and here she's in danger. How many times has she nearly lost her life?"

"It is not easy being a werewo—,"

I interrupted her. "No, it's not easy being human, in the middle of all this werewolf shit, and being unable to help. I can't stand by her side and watch her nearly die, Rhea. Let me take her back home."

Rhea looked at me sincerely, glancing down the hallway behind me for a second, before looking back.

"She's safer here, with us, with all the werewolves here to protect her. She's safer here and you know it." Rhea's tone was serious.

"Then why would Adrian send her back home?" I asked, shaking my head.

Rhea paused and looked at the ground. "Because he's scared. This witch is doing something to him, she's messing him around."

"Well we're leaving tomorrow, Ailani doesn't remember anything. So maybe we can start fresh. If worse comes to worse, then we'll come flying back to you in no time." I tried reassuring her, but her face was void of any friendly emotion.

"If worse comes to worse," she said, "you'll all be dead."

Adrian's P.O.V

I saw her standing there as soon as I reached the clearing, back facing me, arms wide like she was embracing the air around her.

My wolf growled lowly, stalking closer towards her, eyeing her like prey.

Christopher and the wolves were in the forest behind me, spaced out in case she tried to make a move. I was glad they insisted to follow me, there presence made me less on edge-

"Stay where you are."

My heart dropped as I froze in place, one foot placed in front of me as if I was going to keep walking. I tried with all my might to move my feet forward, even my head was unable to move.

"Sit."

I obeyed like the witch that was speaking was my alpha. Silently wishing that the whimper that escaped my mouth was quiet enough for the wolves behind me to not hear. I was in no position to fight. I had already been defeated.

She didn't turn around when she was speaking.

"Tell your wolves that if they step onto the clearing, I'll tell their hearts to stop beating."

I sent them instructions to stay back immediately, and told them the consequences if they chose to disobey.

"Alpha Adrian, my name is Lilith, and we have some catching up to do."
