Adrian's P.O.V

"Basta!"

Everyone stopped sparring with their partners, and took their places back on the mats. Sweat dripped off of the best warriors, the beads glistening on their foreheads in the blazing sun.

"Alexandra," I gestured to the woman standing closest to me, her brown hair tied into a messy bun. "Very well done, you have improved since last time I saw you." She nodded thankfully, her chest rising and falling from lack of breath.

"Mi gente, there is no time for slacking," I raised my brows at a few of the young wolves at the far end of the sparring deck. "You will resume fighting, but this time, one by one. And the warrior that falls to the floor first will be forced to run the perimeters of this pack territory."

Groans came from almost everywhere, and I smiled at the thought of watching people tire.

"You will be accompanied by one of my greatest wolves, who will make sure that you do not slack again." Christopher stepped to my side and nodded his head, laughing at those that were still mumbling curse words.

"Let us begin. First, Alexandra and Joseph. Please take your places."

Katie's P.O.V

Rhea, Jack and I were taking turns to watch over Ailani, who was still lying unconscious in Adrian's bed. It had been nearly 2 weeks since the incident, and each day I felt as though we were getting closer to seeing her wake, but it never happened.

I knocked on the door and walked in, smiling half-heartedly as I watched Jack's hunched over form straighten up, his eyes stare into mine with sadness.

"No luck?" I asked, walking over to the bed.

He shook his head 'no', sighed and walked towards the door.

"Adrian is getting us to spar each other. Kind of like some competition. You'll do fine though, seeing as you're one of his strongest fighters."

In another world, Jack would've smiled a cocky smirk, but he was too lost in thought to even care about what I said.

"I might ask to sit this one out," he said.

Before he closed the door and left me alone with my best friend, I called to him. "Jack, she isn't dead. She's just sleeping, and she'll wake up eventually. We need to be strong and patient for her, that's all."

"I know. But it's getting harder by the day. I'll see you in two hours." And with that, he closed the door shut.

The room fell silent from the lack of talking, and I reluctantly gazed at Ailani's body, stroking the hair out of her face. That familiar feeling of pain spread across my throat, as I fought the urge to cry my eyes out. Jack was right, it was getting more and more difficult. We didn't think it was going to take this long for her to gain consciousness.

We could all tell Adrian was heartbroken, perhaps suffering the most. He was using training as a distraction, and at night, he would shift into wolf form, head out and come back hours later.

"If she doesn't wake up, I'll let my wolf take over forever." He said, days ago.

"Nonsense," Sophia rebuked him.
