Ailani's P.O.V

"You've got to be kidding me," that was one of the many things I heard once the room erupted into murmurs after Adrian had just announced me as the new Luna. Adrian didn't stop them from them talking.

"You okay?" He nudged me slightly as he continued to stare out into the crowd of confused and unamused faces.

"Why did you do that?" I asked through gritted teeth, disguising my annoyance with a smile as some of the people waved a welcoming greeting at me.

"How could I not do that? They were gonna have to find out, better to tell them now then later."

I chuckled a sarcastic laugh and kept my mouth shut.

"Settle down, settle down now," Adrian started to command silence within the room, and I braced myself for something worse to come from his lips. Something like 'oh yeah, and she's human."

"I heard she's human!?"

Well guess the crowd beat him to it.

A young boy with a shaved head, stood up and yelled the question from the opposite side of the room. As soon as he said that the room erupted into chaos, with people hissing out hateful comments, eyes glowing as they glared at me standing beside their new Alpha.

A couple of werewolves from the front, stood up with a look that was threatening. Their hands were balled into fists and their jaws were clenched shut, growls coming from deep within them. But they weren't looking at me; they were staring at Adrian.

"Traitor," one of them snarled.

"You've sided with the enemy and you expect us to welcome you as our Alpha."

"How can you be so blinded? She's a Hunter. There's no such thing as a human Luna."

The first one stepped forward, and I don't know what came over me, or how the growl that escaped my throat came to being, but before I knew it I was standing protectively in front of Adrian - fists balled and ready to do damage.

"Mine," I barked.

The three of them stumbled back, and the whole room gasped and fell silent.

"Her eyes."

"They're fucking silver."

"What the fuck."

"Are you sure she's human. Humans aren't supposed to do that."

"I think she really is his mate."

The comments came to me as echoes, not quite clear, as if they were being said underwater. The werewolves that tried to threaten Adrian were sitting down now, but my protective position remained the same. It wasn't until I felt the cool warmth of Adrian's hand on my back, that I felt myself calming and stood back at his side.

"Alaini is human, and she is also my mate. If I am to be your Alpha then she will be your Luna. No negotiations. If you aren't willing to submit to the both of us, make your choice now and leave."

Around three of four people from the back made their way towards the door, shaking their heads disapprovingly at the ones who decided to stay.

"Anyone else?" Adrian's voice was harsher now, as if my anger was radiating directly onto him. When no one stood up to leave, or made any gestures of rejection, Adrian scoffed slightly.
"Good. Very well then. Any questions?"

Robyn, the girl from Barbados, stood up along with her new mate, Lionel. Adrian nodded towards her, ready to acknowledge her question.

"Many of our people were left at home, surely there is not enough space to hold all of us here?"

"The rest of your pack will remain where they are."

Gasps came from many of the werewolves sitting before us.

"Alpha, who is to take care of our young ones? You can't expect us to not want to go home." A man stood up and with what looked like his mate, a skinny girl with blonde bob hung on his arm. Her eyes laced with worry.

"Home is where the Alpha is." Adrian replied. "This is your home now."

I glanced at Adrian for a short second, wondering how a man so sensitive could be so insensitive about such a complicated situation. He showed no anger, but exhaustion, tiredness that drooped down to  form dark circles underneath his eyes. It came to my realisation that perhaps Adrian wasn't thinking straight. Perhaps the pressure he was facing was stopping him from making the right, compassionate decision.

Perhaps he needs his Luna to speak for him.

"We have plenty of land here, so as of now we will begin constructing new buildings - enough to shelter all of you and more." I saw Katie and Jack smiling at me from the other end, which encouraged me to keep on talking. I welcomed the warmth that was spreading over my body, as if my own body knew that what I was saying was wise and right.

"We will allow half of your pack to go back home, half will stay here so we can begin building without delay. It is your packs choice whether they should stay or come and live with us, but encourage them to be wise with their decision - encourage them to join us. A pack is stronger in numbers, and your family that wishes to stay home will not last very long without the presence of their Alpha."

The muscular man who had asked the question smiled in agreement, bowing his head slightly as a sign of respect. The lady on his arms sighed with relief, as the two of them sat back down again. There was once again, an awkward silence that filled the room, but Adrian, aware that I was finished, spoke again.

"Forgive me for being so abrupt, brother. My Luna is right. You may decide within your packs who is to stay and who is to go back home. Once you have made your choice, please come and speak to me or my brother, Solomon."

"Thank you, Alpha," the man bowed his head in respect, at the two of us, smiling slightly.

Before the room could fall silent again, Adrian spoke up, beginning to walk towards the entrance. "Anymore questions? No. Bien. Please make yourself welcome, dinner is served."

Five chefs with pristine white uniform came out and revealed a buffet of delicious food. I didn't realise I was so hungry until I smelt the air and heard my stomach growl.

"The day is still very beautiful, and the air outside is warm and welcoming. Por favor, if there is no space inside to eat, make your way outside and enjoy the sun while it still shines. Hasta luego."

In a split second, the room was full of werewolves rushing to the buffet; stacking food upon food on large plates, smiling greedily to themselves as they made their way back to their seats. I was about to make my way over to the food, but Adrian took my hand and looked at me lovingly.

"You are my Luna, so you no longer eat in this room mi amor. You will dine with me," he paused and waited for my response. "If you are willing?"

I took his hand and smiled. "I am willing, Alpha."

He led me out of the room, gesturing to Catalina to lead Jack and Katie into another room, one where food was already set, waiting and ready to be devoured.

"I will be taking Ailani with me, if you don't mind?" He said to Jack, walking to the elevator.

Jack and Katie smiled, winking slyly at me whilst Adrian pressed the button on the wall. "She's all yours."

We entered the lift and stood by each other in silence, watching the doors slowly close.

When they were shut. As soon as they were shut, Adrian pushed me against the wall eagerly, caressed my face gently and kissed my lips with such passion that I couldn't help but moan in delight. His body pressed into mine, and I shuddered as his hands found their way underneath my top.
