Adrian's P.O.V

"You can try to escape, Alpha. But right now your body is in a paralytic state, trying to move will only agitate you."

My wolf whimpered in defeat, staring daggers into the woman's back. She had long silver hair, and from
where she was standing, I could just make out a tattoo in the shape of an Egyptian eye on the back of her hand.

"I've been waiting for you for some time, Alpha. I'm glad I could finally meet you," she began.

She must have read my mind, because before I could stifle a growl she continued to talk. "Your mate is perfectly fine, Alpha. For now..."

My body tensed at the sound of a twig snapping from behind me-

"Unfortunately you're werewolf friend is not!" The witch flicked her hand abruptly, the sound of another more ghastly snap filled the forest, and not even seconds after a howl of pain followed. I wanted to run to tend to whoever was hurt, but I still couldn't move.

"You're lucky your friend is still alive," she hissed. "One more act of bravery and I'll snap all their necks." She smiled viciously, lowering her hands down to her side, slowly stalking towards me.

"Now. I am going to let you move, but only for a while. Tell your warriors to take a trip back to the pack house, and then we can speak in private."

As she spoke I could feel the movement coming back in my legs. My wolf wanted to lash out at her wicked face so bad, but the look in her eyes, a look that uttered evil intent and no remorse, stopped me from doing so. My mind began to clear, and I could feel the pack bond declaring it's presence in my head. The wolves in the forest were calling out in earnest to me, desperately trying to find out if I was okay.

"You haven't told them yet, Alpha," the witch nodded towards the trees behind us. "I will kill them before you get the chance. To waste my time is to waste your life."

With a low growl, I pointed my nose to the sky, howling at the dull clouds above me, then I told the wolves to leave the forest as soon as, and not to come back unless I told them to.

My wolf whimpered, hearing their reluctant paws sauntering further away from me and back in the direction they had come.

"Well done," Alpha. This time the witch was in my head, her voice as clear and as cold as the air around us.

I growled at her, my eyes glued to her wrinkly face, and answered her back through the mind-link she had managed to form.

"Why do you call me Alpha, and yet disrespect me like a common man?" I accused.

"I have shown no disrespect to you, Alph-."

"Enough!" My wolf snapped at her mocking tone. "You harmed my mate, do not deny your transgressions!"

"That girl is NOT your mate!" The grating sound of her voice was more than apparent, the witch seemed offended at my remark.

"You are a witch, you of all people should know that she is my mate, you severed our bond!" My wolf was growing impatient, and seethed at the disrespect this witch was showing my mate.

"You of all people should know that no human can be an Alpha's mate!"

I scoffed at her, for some witch she sure was clueless.

"So you haven't heard of the legend of the Huma-,"

"You imbecile! All my lifetime your species has never failed to amaze me! You are stupidity personified!" The witch lifted her head to the sky and cackled, amused.

"You speak to me like this, and yet you say you mean no disrespect?"

"Do you know who wrote that legend?" She didn't even give me time to reply. "A human wrote that silly book, a human infatuated with the werewolves and how they have one soulmate and one soulmate only. That book was written with the hopes that one day a human could find their soulmate among the wolves. It is a fantasy book. A blasphemous book. Who dares to alter the wishes of the Goddess of the moon?"

I was taken aback. First of all, if she was telling the truth, why was I so attracted to Ailani. Why did my wolf recognise her as his other half?  None of this made sense, and my gut was telling me that this witch, this powerful wizard that was able to paralyse me with just a small gesture, was wrong.

"I know what I feel," I began.

She scoffed and looked at me coldly. "You feel nothing but lust Alpha, a trait that comes with your human side. Lust is deceiving, and love is blind-,"

"And you are starting to piss me off!" I spat, tired of this witch already. "I think we are done here."

"Oh we are far from done, Alpha."

"We are DONE! I have come here because you have done something to my mate, and my wolf. I can no longer remember her."

"I have done this for your own good. That girl is not your mate; and you will be doomed if you think that she is."

"How do you know for sure, if all of the signs that we are told we should experience have already occurred." I spoke to her, more silent than I intended. I was speaking to myself just as much.

The witch looked at me with pity in her eyes.

"I'm assuming you have done all the blood tests necessary?"

My long pause meant that she was wrong. We hadn't seen the need to do blood tests because it was quite apparent she was mine-.

"The only way that girl could be your mate, is if she has werewolf in her blood. And if she does, even if she has 5% of your blood in her DNA, then she will change, and she will die."

"What do you mean she will die?" For the first time in a while, my wolf lashed out in disagreement.

"A werewolf goes through their change and heals within hours, because their blood is strong enough, powerful enough. If this girl is a half-breed, if she only has a small percentage of your blood, she will still change, but her body will not be able to heal itself in time, and she will die."

"Why haven't I been told this, our Elders-."

"Your Elders, all of you werewolves have been deceived, you know nothing of what is, and what is to come. I am here, not to harm you. But to help you."

"Yeah but how can y-."

All of a sudden the witches eyes rolled back and she span around and whizzed from my sight.

When she was gone, I felt my senses come back, and was able to move freely again.

Although the witch was gone, I had a feeling I would be seeing her very soon. But for now, I had a lot of things I needed to do.

Getting Ailani's blood checked was first on my list.
