Adrian's P.O.V

"She was looking straight at me, I don't think you understand."

The walls of the bedroom were not enough to make me feel safe. This place wasn't safe anymore,  my wolf and I knew it. Saying it out loud was another story.

"What did she look like?"  Solomon asked.

I stopped, stared at him with confusion. Was he a fucking idiot?

"What do you mean, 'what did she look like?' I mimicked his voice in a high pitched tone. "She looked like Ailani you imbecile. She was in Ailani."

"Okay, guys. You're starting to freak me out."

Ailani was still perched up on the bed, beads of sweat glistening on her forehead. She was well again, but she was aching with fear. I felt it, felt her tense whenever I went close to her. She was scared, and it was making her sick.

"I'm sorry mi amor, I'm supposed to love you and protect you. I'm supposed to be the strongest Alpha on the planet. And I'm failing at both miserably."

Jack turned to Catalina, who was also stricken with something that looked like fear.

"Why don't you just touch her. See what she wants, or find out any characteristics of hers that she may have left on Ailani?"

Jack was right. I turned to Catalina, my eyes asking her to do what Jack had proposed. She hesitated, but got up and began walkin-.

"That's not a good idea." Rhea spoke up.

"Why not?" Jack and I spat the question at her simultaneously.

"Catalina has a gift. She is psychic, which means she has the power to see. This witch also harnesses a lot of power. If Catalina touches Ailani, you risk the possibility of drawing her back here." Rhea mused.

"And if she comes back here, there is a possibility she can possess Catalina as well as Ailani?" I asked, a hint of... never mind.

"Alpha, we don't know how powerful this woman is."

"She's not a woman, she's a witch." Katie spat.

"Witch, woman, whatever. It's best to play it safe and withhold any magic we have on Ailani. Just in case."

"Where's Sophia?" I changed the subject without a second thought.

"She cannot come," Christopher said. He's back leaning against the bedroom door.

"What do you mean she can't come? I need her here NOW!"

"It's Pack Law, Alpha. The Elders cannot be summoned too many times."

"But this is an emergency," I growled.

"Yes, which is why you need to state that you are in the midst of an emergency. Once you admit you are no longer fit to follow the guidance of your wolf alone, Sophia and the rest of the Elders will be at your side whenever and wherever." Catalina's voice was humbling and gentle.

Look at me. I sat down on the armchair in the corner of the room with an anguished look on my face. I had forgotten Pack Law. I was not fit to do anything. I was scared.

"Fuck it," I hissed, my wolf resisting the urge to surrender. "Make it known to all the territories across the world that I, Alpha Adrian, am declaring a state of emergency. Now bring Sophia to me."

"I am already here," Sophia's voice sounded on the other side of the door. Christopher opened it as soon as he heard her, letting her in to see me. She graciously came to my side, her face calm but her eyes speaking of a terrible danger. She closed her eyes and rested her forehead on mine. I saw it, her wolf submitting to my larger one in obedience. She had submitted herself to me, the radiation of wisdom leaving her wolf and surrounding mine. I breathed a sigh of relief. Her help was going to bring me peace, if only a little bit.

"How did you know I was calling you?" I asked, stepping back from her embrace to look at her.

"I didn't. I have come to warn you that this witch is posing a great threat to this territory." Her voice was gritty and hard like gravel.

"Why do you say that?" The peace I had felt only seconds ago was being ripped from my grasp.

"You must come at once. See for yourself."

Catalina, Katie and Rhea stayed in the room with Ailani. I trusted Christopher, but not enough to leave a male wolf in her presence. The women were strong enough, I knew they would take care of her.

When I stepped outside, my first thought was 'which wolf was the witch possessing.' But when I saw the outrage that was taking place before me, I realised that she wasn't just possessing one wolf, but all of them. There wasn't a single person in sight that was not fighting. Pack member was turning against pack member, scratching at each other's flesh, clawing their loved ones necks. The terror my wolf felt at the screeching sound of everyone yelling, hissing, growling, roaring; made my wolf whimper in fear and helplessness.

"What is she doing?" I breathed in disbelief.

"She is destroying your pack. Or better, she is making your pack destroy itself."

"BASTA AHORA!" I bellowed at the top of my lungs, power emanating from my body as I sought to reach every body's attention.

But nothing.

I stared in shock. Looking at my people hurting each other as if they were enemies of war.

As quick as the fear had overtaken my body, anger replaced it and shook my bones with the wrath a father has when his son disobeys him. I felt my wolf take control, imagined him tearing through the skin of my human form, shredding every last bit of moral ethic and dominating my entire being. I jumped and phased in mid air, my paws causing a great thud as they landed on the floor in one quick motion. I was no longer in control...

The roar that came out of my wolfs mouth rippled through the air, a surge of great anger overpowering the snarls coming from the mouths of my people destroying themselves. At once everyone stopped. And that's when I saw it.

Their eyes glazed the same way Ailani's did, as if they were in some kind of trance. I observed each and every one of them, as they stood there, blood dripping from the gashes they had made in each others skin, zombie-like.

"Snap them out of it, Alpha." I heard Sophia's old voice ring in my head, her words more of a command than a word of encouragement.

When I roared again, screams of terror were coming from some, cries and growls coming from others; as they witnessed the horrific crimes of what they had done. Mate ran to mate in an attempt to soothe the wounds that were made only moments ago.

My wolf was calm again, having gained control over the pack.

I was about to phase back into human form, when I felt the need to sniff far off into the distance, my impeccable sense of smell reaching to the furthest parts of the pack territory. That's where I saw her. Pass the tracks that meandered through the forest, past the trees, over the water of Lake Limpiar, over the hills and onto a high cliff. She was standing there, her back to me, hair covered in a black scarf, arms stretched out to her sides like she was mimicking a cross.

It was out of my control. My wolf roared in anger and took off, running so fast that I felt my paws weren't even touching the ground. I ripped my way through branches, snapping anything that stood in my way. I didn't stop until I was at the top of the cliff, overlooking the valleys that surrounded my territory.

But she wasn't there.

I sniffed, holding my nose low to the ground, searching for the same scent I had smelt from the entrance of the Pack House. I was certain that she was here.

I growled and in the same heartbeat my wolf fell to the ground with a whimper. I felt as if eyes were being gauged out of my head, my canines being ripped from my gums.

When my wolf heard Ailani scream in my head, I howled to the darkening sky, knowing it was game over.
