Chapter 50: Unity - part IV

After two days of games, some more singing, jokes and laughter, it was time to slay the demi-Xuanwu. The Lan Sect had made the bow strings usable for Chord Assassination, the swords all sharpened and enhanced with spiritual power. They were like temporary spiritual weapons!

It was a trick a disciple had spoken about the day before as a careless suggestion, but Wei WuXian didn't think it was complete nonsense. He had taken the swords and spent a few hours tinkering with them, until he had managed to make them temporary spiritual weapons. He passed out after doing it to all the swords, causing Jiang Cheng and Lan WangJi to both panic for a few seconds.

"Does everyone know their roles?" Nie Huaisang asked, turning to everyone. They were waiting for the Lan Sect to return and call them out. The white-robed cultivators were currently setting up the string formation.

Firm nods were given. Jin ZiXuan adjusted the grip on the sword he was holding, looking at Jiang Cheng and Wei WuXian, "Are you sure you'll be okay in the shell?"

"The six of us will be using the telepathic connection to communicate," Jiang Cheng reminded, "We'll be okay,"

Wei WuXian patted Jin ZiXuan's back, "We only have one chance at this, and this plan doesn't have many loopholes, trust me. I'd know,"

"Oh, yes. I clearly remember all the loopholes you taught us at Cloud Recesses," Nie Huaisang laughed.

Jin ZiXuan rolled his eyes, "And the trouble you got in,"

"How did you manage to find your soulmate in the GusuLan Sect?" A disciple chuckled.

"By breaking rules!" Wei WuXian grinned.

"Huh?"

"Haven't I told you?" Wei WuXian gasped, before launching into the story, "Lan Zhan and I first met on the first night of our arrival at Cloud Recesses. I snuck out after curfew to get Emperors Smile, the best liquor in the world! He caught me and we fought on the roof under the moon!"

"How romantic! You met under the moon and stars!" A disciple swooned and Jiang Cheng shared a dry look with Jin ZiXuan.

Jiang TengFei informed, "They're back!"

The group turned as the Twin Jades walked in with the other disciples from the GusuLan Sect. Lan Xichen gave a smile, "It's ready,"

The atmosphere turned serious. Gu BingWen looked towards Wei WuXian and Jiang Cheng, "Be careful, both of you,"

They nodded, Lan WangJi reminding, "After Wei Ying and Wanyin lure the beast out, we'll use chord assassination. Every disciple that is not carrying a weapon or on medical duty, has to be ready for anything. That includes if someone does get injured or falls in the water, pull them out,"

The group mentioned gave thumbs up and nods. Jiang Cheng walked forward looking at Lan Xichen, "Mind link?"

Two fingers were encased with blue spiritual energy, five small streams flowing towards the center of the foreheads of Jin ZiXuan, Nie Huaisang, Lan WangJi, and the Yunmeng brothers. Once the mind link was established, the group all headed out. The twin jades and the Lan disciples that were set for Chord Assassination, positioned themselves behind stones that were easy for them to launch into action. Jin ZiXuan and Nie Huaisang took two halves of the group to hide behind large rock formations and stare at the monster.

Once everyone was set, everyone looked towards Jiang Cheng and Wei WuXian, who had approached the water. Sharing a look, the two nodded and in harmony, dove into the water. Hands conjoined, they swam down towards the bottom of the shell. As they dove, Wei WuXian and Jiang Cheng were shocked and disgusted by the site.
