almost two weeks had passed since then. i was transported back into the town with the civilians. still, i was hidden from my classmates. i have not heard anything about their conditions for a few days and my dad was quiet after our conversation. for most of the part, our town was okay and thankfully our house was in tact. i'm also on my days of wearing bandages around my neck and my bruises are finally yellowing.
dad told me class 1-a were helping to build the houses and buildings that were damaged.
"i'm going to be in an important phone call," he says. "so please be quiet and leave a note if you go to help again today."
"okay" i look up from my phone. my friends were all okay according to headlines and i had helped my neighbors with building back simple stuff. my old boss, kazehaya, was so ecstatic about my tree and has made it a priority to remind me of that.
mahoro\(//∇//)\ is calling...
"hey mahoro, what's up?"
"y/n, wanna come help us?!"
"come help!" i hear katsuma yell in the back.
"yeah i'll be there in a bit, i'm still resting" i chuckle. they scream their goodbyes at me and hang up. after the tree situation, i stayed in bed. i had six water bottles in my book bag for me to drink and at the end i had only finished three. i was surprised that i was able to do that on such low water and it gave me hope to not always rely on water bottles.
it was actually one of my objectives at UA.
i look at my arms to still find markings of tree bark and roots, it's the first time that's happened with anything i've made. i still can't believe i did it. this feels like a dream.
i lay on my back and stare at the ceiling. they're probably leaving soon.
-
the sun was setting and i collapsed on the dirt floor.
"thank you so much, kids" megumi says. her porch had gotten destroyed so i went with a couple other kids to help fix it. katsuma and mahoro were there but there wasn't a lot for them to do.
"no problem! now i know how to build one!" i laugh. she gives us sliced fruit in plastic bowls with a water bottle. i tell her goodnight and start to head home. i walk down the dirt path and stop at a small intersection.
instead of going to the left, i walk to the right. i had finished my bowl of fruit and started downing the water bottle. i walk closer the familiar building and walk into the forest beside it. no one is on the balcony.
"hey bastard" a hand on my shoulder turns me around and pushes me against the tree i was just leaning on. it's bakugou.
he gives me a nasty glare and starts to drag me by the arm into the deeper forest.
"he-"
"shut up!" he snaps at me. i roll my eyes at the tempered child and sigh. five minutes later he let's go but still faces away from me. "do you ever fucking listen?! i told you to sit back and do nothing!"
"i couldn't! i'm pretty sure i saw your near death experience! katsuma and mahoro were in trouble too! i want to be a hero!" i argue back. bakugou pinches the bridge of his noise in irritation. i huff.
"you shitty idiot" i hear him say. i see his eyes land on me and then to my neck and back at my eyes. "you should've stayed in the cave... that frog girl mentioned your name! who the fuck else knows you're here?! that shitty nerd and round face?!"
"w-well-"
"are you even thinking through with what you're doing?! are you even thinking about their feelings?!" what the fuck?!
"i'm sorry, do you want me to just disappear?! is that how bad you want me gone, to never show my face again?! you think i just wanted to leave everyone and i was so happy to? fuck you!" i yell. "fuck you for assuming i can't think for myself and i'm just doing whatever i want for the fucking hell of it!"
"look bas-"
"i'm not done talking, i know i've fucked up for not reaching out for help about shoto but oh my fucking god, you keep telling me to stay out of the way like you never want to see me again," i snap at him. "like do you really think i'm just going to give up on my literal aspirations in life?! everything that i was working hard for?!"
his face is unreadable. i'm fuming and my face is so hot from yelling and just being worked up. why the hell did i even come here for, because i know i didn't come here to be yelled at.
i turn away to leave and i remember the voicemails and messages on my old phone.
"how can i consider you a friend when you didn't tell me anything?! fuck you, you're not even here anymore!"
