We had plenty of time.
Karl had been dragging me around, jumping timelines from one to another. Page after page disappeared from his book, ripped out, and used to make a portal. I wasn't sure that it was such a good idea to rely on such a limited source for transportation for time-traveling but I trusted Karl, so I had to trust the book.
In hindsight, time-traveling isn't and never will be a good idea. And I knew that, but of course, I had to trust Karl.
And then when an angry 19th-century horde of religious douches started raising their pitchforks and torches, backing us into an inescapable corner, he tore the last page and shoved the both of us into the in-between, the white endless void.
There was no way we could ever get out, and we'd die, with nothing and no one. We'd have to wait the rest of our puny little mortal lives in the plane of alabaster.
We had plenty of time.
