It's showtime
The DJ starts to call out our names walking in, in our pairs. I take a deep breath looking at Leo who gives me a simple nod. My arm hooks to his as our names get called out.
Walking in the ballroom many people have their phones out taking pictures and videos. The photographers move all around us catching different angles.
Standing in the middle the soft medley starts to play, cueing us to start. A simple waltz is what we went with nothing over the top. "Don't think about it, you're doing fine" Leo whispers to me, seeing my nerves.
All eyes are on us. Many stare in awe, others waiting for the actual party to start.
One two one two one two
Simple steps but they seemed to leave my head. Just deep breaths deep breaths is what I need to take. The song comes to an end lifting the weight off my shoulder. "You did great" Leo smiles at me walking away.
The father daughter dance comes but it's not that bad. I feel more at ease.
Soon enough my brothers all have their turn. Adriano laughed the whole time, Angelo kept talking about other people in the room and Agosto was just wondering when he could get drunk.
Dancing with Alessandro right now feels unrealistic. Not because he's dancing but because I realize I'm actually getting older. "I remember when you were a baby. Where did time go" I feel the tears come to my eyes
"Sandro, you're not 16 anymore, I'm not nine. I'm 16 and you're 23. We grew up" A tear slips from my eye others trying to fall through.
"I have to grow up. I'm the oldest but Athena you're the youngest. Being here with you right now I can see you in a few years wearing a wedding dress. The tug you have on my heart is more than you can think off" He wipes the tears coming down my face but it's no use.
I cry into his chest hugging him tightly swaying to the beat of the music. "No no no don't cry anymore. Princesses aren't made to cry there made to grow and fly" he wipes my face kissing my forehead.
"I love you Alessandro" The song starts to fade in the background. "I love you more Athena" he hugs me tightly I return it holding back more tears.
Ugh I need to stop being emotional. Dirty little secret by The all American rejects comes on making everyone come to the dance floor.
Mia hands me a napkin wiping the tears that escaped. I don't know how long we dance for but it feels like forever.
"Oh I'm so sorry" I say bumping into a person by accident. His icy blue eyes stare back at me with a small smile on his face. "It's no problem you look beautiful" We stare at each other before he walks away with a small smile evident on his face.
Something about him. "If it isn't the birthday girl" Adriano holds the camera in his hand recording us. "Did you just see the boy who I just bumped into?" I turn around looking for the icy blue eyes nowhere to be seen.
"No I don't see him anymore eh whatever" Adriano shuts off the video wrapping his arms around Mia. Those two really need to stop playing around and just date already.
Maybe mystery boy is meant to stay a mystery.
After a while mom comes up to me and tells me it's time for the 16 Candles.
