Something More

Ron was kissing me, but I wasn't into it. I pulled away from him and sat on the bed staring at the hardwood floor. It had felt like I was just here and he was using my mouth as a toy.

"Kim!" Ron shouted after saying her name several times.

I looked at him with wide eyes. "What?" I yelled back. "Why are you screaming at me?"

In a whisper I could hear him, " . . . we are getting older you might need a hearing aid."

"Excuse me?!?!!" I stood up in anger. "I was off in my own thoughts, Ronald, I don't need a hearing aid. I just need . . . I need . . ."

"What?" He asked.

"Something more than this." I said, sitting back down and feeling guilty. "I feel like all we ever do anymore is eat, sleep and repeat. Our jobs now have us in a lockdown position."

"I like being a manager at Smarty Mart." Ron said. "We had to stop saving the world at some point. We're only two people, K.P. Even with Team Go helping out sometimes, it's still not enough to save the whole world."

Yeah, that was sadly true. There would always be death and destruction we could never do anything about. We had tried for years after graduating. We got married two years after graduation in Rome without any of our family. My mother though kept insisting we get married in the states. We had a very small gathering for our families and retied the knot several months later.

"I can't believe I'm gonna thirty-seven soon." I said getting teary-eyed.

"Same. Five months after yours. Still can't believe I'm five months younger than you."

"It's fine. I get to be it first that's all. I'm already feeling those lower back aches my parent's groan about often."

"September 9th - Doomsday!!" He said and let out a cry in the most Ron way possible. "I DON'T WANT TO GET OLD!"

My ears hurt from him yelling. "Neither do I, but that's life."

Ron then asked, "Why did you stop kissing me?"

Errrrrr . . . . . . great. "I just got tired of it." I said and headed for the bathroom so he wouldn't keep bugging me.

Ouch . . . tired of kissing me? Ron thought in a panic. This can't be good.

I closed the door, locked it and sat down on the floor. I sat there for the next half hour wondering what more my life needed. What needed to change?

Location. And something else . . .

Being stuck in a job that I couldn't get away from. I was working part time at a sporting goods store. I had been there for the last three years.

I opened the door and went back into the room. "I'm not happy."

Ron was scared now. Me? Is it me? He thought.

"Things need to change. I'm gonna make a list." Yeah, I was one of those people now.

"Kylie texted me. She's staying over at Azlyn's."

I nodded. "I know Rose, her mother, told me that she was going to. Something about a sleepover with other friends too."

Kylie was their fourteen year old. Red hair, light brown eyes and very pretty. She was their only child too. Ron wanted more kids, but Kim didn't want to go through that again.

Ron was still worried. Is this her mid-life crisis?!
