as dustin closed the door to my bedroom, I examined the faces of the people in the room, they were all extremely confused.

"are you out of your mind?" questioned an annoyed lucas.

"just bare with me okay-" I started but was cut off by mike.

"I thought we made a deal! she was meant to tell mum that she was lost!" snapped mike.

"I can't believe you y/n!" lucas added.

"just listen!" I tried my best to explain but I had to make sure the boys were actually listening first, "she knows about will!"

"what do you mean?" asked dustin.

I stormed over to the pinned picture of the party on the wall, "she pointed at him, she knew he was missing! I could tell."

"you could tell?" repeated lucas, totally bizarred.

"think about it," I began to explain, "do you really think it was a coincidence that we found her on Mirkwood? the same place will disappeared?"

"that is weird.." agreed dustin.

"plus, she said bad people are after her.." I added to my point, "maybe these bad people.. maybe they took will and I think she knows where he is."

"then why doesn't she tell us!" lucas snapped before marching over to el, "do you know where he is?"

el didn't reply, she just shyly stared up at lucas without saying a word.

lucas grew more and more agitated by the second before he grabbed el by her shoulders and shouted into her face, "do you know where Will is!?"

"lucas!" I yelled whilst stomping over and pulling him off her, "stop, you're scaring her!"

"she should be scared!" lucas exclaimed before facing el again, "if you know where he is, tell us!"

el didn't answer, just like the last time so lucas turned to argue with me again.

"this is nuts!" he gestured with his hands, "we have to tell your mum!"

"no! eleven said telling any adult would put us in danger." I defended.

"what kind of danger?.." a dazed dustin asked.

"her name is eleven?!" retorted lucas.

"el for short," I informed.

"y/n!" dustin's tone in voice raised, "what kind of danger!"

"danger danger." I spoke sternly whilst forming a finger-gun and holding it to his head, then followed by mike's head but by the time it reached lucas' he slapped my hand away.

"no. no. no!" lucas snarled, "we're going back to plan A. we're telling your mum!" he shoved past us all and opened the door but it slammed shut right in his face, toys around the room rattled. lucas tried again but was only met with the same ending, the door closed very violently yet again before locking itself.

all eyes turned to el, who had a thin stream of blood smoothly trickling down from her left nostril, "no."

the wheelers were sat at the dining table, just as they usually do every night but this time in addition to dustin and lucas. scraping and clattering from the knifes and forks, scratching the plates was the only thing to be heard in the awkward silence.

"something wrong with the meatloaf?" asked mrs wheeler as she noticed dustin, lucas and mike were just playing with their food.

"um no, I had two bologna sandwiches for lunch.. I dunno why.." dustin excused.

"me too," lucas fake chuckled.

"me three?" mike offered but it was a plain and blatant lie.

"michael, I know that I packed you corned beef so don't you dare try that with me." warned karen which caused me to smirk at mike's failed plan.

"it's delicious mummy," nancy smiled but it was so fake it almost made me sick, but that's if the meatloaf wasn't already making me feel queasy, alas I still proceeded to eat it, nevertheless.

"thank you sweetie," my mum grinned back.

"so.. there's this.. special assembly thing tonight.. for will." informed nancy, "..at the school field, barb's driving."

"and why am I just hearing about this?" questioned mrs wheeler.

"I thought you knew?" answered nancy.

"I told you, I don't want you out after dark until Will is found." karen reminded her.

"I know, I know, but it'd be super weird if I wasn't there.." nancy spoke, "I mean, everyone's going."

karen let out a deep sigh, "just- be back by 10." nancy nodded in response, satisfied with her mother's answer.

"why don't you take the boys and
y/n too?" karen asked.

"no!" we all exclaimed.

"don't you think you should be there? for will?" karen questioned.

then in the corner of my eye, I could see el slowly wondering down the stairs, completely oblivious to the dinner that was happening down stairs. mike spilled his milk all over his face whilst I dropped my fork onto my empty plate and it created a loud noise. dustin, on the other hand began to thump his fists on the table, which made karen look away in the nick of time.

"sorry, spasm." dustin apologised but it caused nancy to glare.

"err.. I'm gonna go.. do homework, thanks for the meatloaf mum.." I awkwardly said whilst taking my plate to the kitchen sink, not forgetting to grab a packet of cookies from the cupboard for el to eat.

I then ran down the stairs to the basement, knowing that's where I would find el. and there she sat, again, fiddling with the walkie.

"hi!" I beamed whilst holding out to cookie packet to her, "I know it's not a very substantial or healthy meal but it's something."

she took the packet from me and inspected it carefully before attempting to open it.

"oh, hold on I'll open it for you.." she passed me the packet back as I knelt on the floor, and with a simple tug, the packet burst open and I handed it to el.

she stuffed handfuls of the cookies into her mouth at a time, I watched with a shocked face as she wolfed them down.

"y'know.. you can just tell me if you're hungry," I chuckled heartily, she smiled at me lightly as she continued to eat, "what you did earlier.. with the door, it was really cool, y'know that right?"

she didn't reply, she just meekly shrugged her shoulders though I could tell she felt a surge of pride rush through her veins.

I repositioned myself so I could sit crossed legged, a more comfortable position than kneeling.

"the boys'll probably rush down here in a minute and start saying stupid stuff about your superpowers," I spoke softly, "so best to enjoy the peace and quiet while we can."

"yeah," her light voice replied which caused a smile to tug at my lips.

she discarded the empty packet to her side before she shuffled closer to me and gently rested her head upon my shoulder. my whole face turned a dark crimson colour as I glanced down at her resting form. a funny feeling erupted in my stomach, it was like butterflies fluttering mixed with exploding fireworks so I closed my eyes, rested my own head back on her's and enjoyed the moment while it lasted.
