ambulance sirens wailed and whined outside the building, they'd been called after angela got smacked in the face. they didn't even think twice about the time I almost killed her!?

angela continued to sob as the paramedic helped her, stacy held a bloodied bandage up to her crippled nose.

"can you tell me your name?" the paramedic quizzed.

"um- angela." she stuttered in response.

"angela," the paramedic repeated, "and do you know where you are, angela?"

angela answered and the paramedic kept on asking simple questions to see if her memory was intact. the large crowd that surrounded the scene uttered amongst themselves, many of them had their gazes cast upon el and I.

and as for el and I, we were sat down in one of the booths together with unfazed expressions. we genuinely didn't give a crap about angela, and I mean, who would??

"these people acting as if they'd never seen a school fight before." I whispered to el and she giggled quietly in response. el's giggling caused more people to look and pull disgusted faces, they couldn't believe that she was laughing after committing such a 'crime.' honestly, if she'd managed to cause this much harm without her powers, I do wonder what she could've done if she did have them just now. she could've finished the job for me.

"that future prom queen is gonna be fine, man." argyle slurred as he tapped on the steering wheel of his volkswagen vanagon, "I don't even know what she was crying for, it was just some plastic wheel."

"rubber." jonathan corrected, I then looked over to my left and I saw mike peacefully half-asleep on will's chest. I smiled at seeing my brother so peaceful for once in a while before casting my gaze to el. we both blushed as our eyes met, she was already staring with wide eyes when I went to face her.

"did I tell you that you're hair is beautiful?" I softly spoke, admiring her features that I could honestly stare at all day long, "I'm really digging the whole growing-it-out thing, but, it looks super pretty however you have it."

"thank you." el gushed as she buried her head into my shoulder, trying to hide her wide, sheepish smile.

I lifted my arm up and tightly wrapped it around el, pulling her closer to me as she nuzzled her face deeper into the right side of my chest. I could feel her heated breaths blow in and out, radiating my skin.

argyle and jonathan were way too immersed in there stupid, high conversation in the front two seats. I didn't even bother to listen to them until they started some tune with the word, 'blip.'

"blip, blip, blip, blip, blip, blip, blip~" they sang between themselves, in the tune of a common circus song.

hand in hand, el and I entered the byers' house, followed by mike, will, jonathan and argyle.

"mum?" will called out as he looked around.

we continued to trek forward until we reached the dining room where we were met with.. murrary bauman??

"well, well!" he shouted, "aren't you guys a sight for sore eyes, huh?"

"-hi murrary." jonathan replied, waving his hand.

"you kids like risotto?" murray asked as everyone else wore a confused look.

"yeah!" jonathan happily beamed.

all of us now sat around the dinner table, joyce included, listening to murray talk.

"there I was, heading down the I-5, going to see a client in ventura." he began, "I'm looking for a motel to stay for the night, and suddenly, bam!" he slapped his palms against the table, "it hits me! didn't the byers move here?"

"-small world isn't it?" joyce smiled.

"it is a small world!" murray added, eating a mouthful of his risotto, "so I thought, hey, you know what? why don't I drop in, say hello to my old friends?"

"-so sweet of you" joyce grinned back.

"sweeter of you to let me stay." murrary chuckled in response.

"-and he cooks too." joyce added, scooping a forkful of the risotto.

"mhm, and cleans." murray patted his bushy hair, "regular little housewife."

el rolled her eyes at this and I was forced to stifle a laugh as I sat beside her, prodding at my food.

"-you should stay." joyce said to murray from across the table.

"I'd be tempted, joyce." murrary replied, "except y'know, you have that, uh.."

"right. that business trip." joyce finished for him, something seemed off.

mike, will, el and I pulled a face and turned to joyce, "business trip?" will remarked, "what business trip?"

"oh my gosh," joyce chuckled, "I almost forgot to tell you guys, this thing came up at work last minute and then it turns up I have to go to a conference tomorrow, in alaska."

"-alaska? tomorrow?!" we all exclaimed, dropping our forks with a loud clatter.

"crazy right?" murray commented.

"that's where their based, the brittanicas." joyce explained, "joan and brian brittanica."

murray let out a big puff of air, I detected that he seemed uncomfortable until argyle spoke up.

"so do eskimos, like, still live in igloos? or, uh, are they fully-blown living in the.. suburbs now?" he inquired, taking many pauses.

"who is this?" murray asked joyce whilst nodding his head towards argyle.

"so, jonathan this means you're gonna have to, y'know, take charge while I'm gone." joyce changed the subject.

"-wait." jonathan chewed on his food, "what? what's going on?"

"your mum's going to alaska." argyle whispered into his ear.

"you're going to alaska?" jonathan slurred as he turned his head to face joyce. she nodded and he spoke up again, "what's going on in alaska?"

"-the britannicas are there." argyle stated as I managed to finish about half of my meal.

"britannicas?" jonathan looked around without a clue in the world.

"jonathan, what is wrong with you?" joyce inquired as her eyebrows creased.

"-I think I know what's wrong with him." I heard murray mutter.

"-we just had a super stressful day." jonathan shrugged.

"stress, huh?" murray raised his eyebrows.

"this girl almost got killed twice today at the roller rink." argyle explained, el and I shared a look before he continued, "it was kinda crazy. I saw this video, right? she was flinging across the room and everything, then some other girl totally smashed her face in with a skate, but that wasn't on video, man."

"flinging across the room?" murray repeated, growing concerned and even shooting a very quick glance to me.

"yup, like a little bug." argyle said, "oh yeah, and the skate was just a normal skate. so no ice skate luckily 'cause that would've ended a lot more badly."

"mhm," jonathan nodded in agreement.

"anyways, she looked like she was gonna be fine. it was just a little bump on the head and, um, well, fly around the room." argyle assured.

a few seconds later, el slammed her fork onto the table before standing up out of her seat very quickly and grasping my hand, pulling me up with her. my fork clattered to the wooden table as el dragged me along, up the stairs.

"el, y/n? what's going on? aren't you gonna finish your.." joyce began but then trailed off. I was extremely confused but just followed along after el, asking no questions.
