-reader's pov-

el's limp body lay on the leather hospital bed, she was dripping with water and her head was shaved again. I knew how dedicated she was to growing her hair, she was doing so good at it as well. but now these stupid fucking doctors have stolen it from her, just like how they stole her childhood.

a female doctor pressed an electric defibrillator up to el's skin, just a little below her collar bone. her eyes shot open and she took a huge gasp for air.

"EL!" I squealed, so thankful she was alive.

"air." another doctor ordered and the female doctor did as instructed. she reached for a gas mask and held it to el's panting mouth.

"el, oh my god." I rambled in a panic, "thank god you're okay, oh my god-"

"give her some space, thirtee-" brenner warned but was cut short by the now-switched-off defibrillator smashing against the side of his face.

el leapt up from the hospital bed whilst shouting, "Y/N! COME ON!" following her lead, we both sprinted as fast as possible down the corridor, just like earlier.

"EL? EL? WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU?" I yelled as we fast approached the elevator.

el jabbed her finger at the elevator button repeatedly, her face extremely distressed. the elevator was taking too long and guards were growing close again.

"giving us quite the workout." a guard's voice announced from behind, "you really wanna do this?"

before I could say something snarky in response, they all hurtled forwards and grabbed el and I.

"GET OFF!" I snapped whilst trying to tug away, I didn't want to kill them.

but the energy around us began to thrum as el shrieked and kicked. shit, something was about to happen.

I braced for impact and curled up into a tight ball, the very next second, an ear-splitting scream erupted from the depths of el's lungs. electricity sparked everywhere and the men that were trying to capture us went flying. they crashed with a strong force against the metal walls of the underground facility.

her scream echoed around before gradually fading away, the guards fell to the floor, they were all dead now too. taking the guard death count up to 17.

"el.." I untucked myself from the ball I had cowered into, "el, you did it.."

el slowly twisted her head to look at me, tears welled in her eyes and a sob racked her body.

"I-I'm so proud of you." a wide smile cracked itself upon my lips.

she then looked straight into my eyes and it was as if the universe had stopped, just like always. everything inside my body stood still. everything except from my heart, which was beating like a madman. she returned the smile, despite it being broken. my heart still gushed and a silence engulfed me. my heart was up in my throat as she croaked a few words out, "t-they cut my hair off, n/n.." that indeed was true, and there really was nothing I could do to stop them from cutting her beautiful brown hair off. nevertheless, I still drowned in her natural beauty, her pale skin gleamed in the artificial light. her chocolatey brown eyes glistened with the majestic sight of heaven. jane hopper was addicting, and I could never pull myself away. my shaky hand raised up to softly caress her buzzed hair, the texture was prickly but also soft, so very soft.

"it doesn't matter, el." I began, trying my hardest to select meaningful words other than just say something stupid like I usually do, "because to me, you're the most beautiful person to walk the planet. earth is lucky to have you, el. I'm lucky to have you, never could I even imagine a world without you, never."

our smiles never faded as we found ourselves leaning in until our lips finally touched. her eyes fluttered shut and I copied her small action, my hands crawled down to softly fondle her waist as her own hands tangled deep within the roots of my hair. we kissed as if it was our first, but really it must've been the millionth by now. and I guess something just felt different, but it was a good different. and it wasn't because of her missing locks of curly brunette hair. it was the fact her powers had returned, we had that connection again. the strange bond that only increased our deep love and affection for eachother had reappeared. the connection made my heart flutter, despite the fact it was already fluttering because of the kiss.

slowly and completely lost in the imaginative world of planet love, we pulled away. our lips parted and I blinked up at el lovingly, "I love you, el."

"I love you too." she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. she too was overwhelmed in happiness at the fact the connection had returned.

"remarkable." brenner's voice ended the romantic moment in an instant.

"what? the kiss or el's powers?" I rhetorically sassed back, I was angry at him. he was the reason el now felt insecure about her hair again, even though buzz cuts really suited her.

brenner stared at me, he seemed very unimpressed. he obviously didn't want me around but he knew that I had to be. I was just another one of his little lab rats, of course.

"stay away." el seethed at him, protectively holding an arm out over me.

he ignored her and took another stride closer. "I said stay away!" el spat before thrusting her other arm out. I expected brenner to go flinging down the corridor like an elastic band, but nothing at all happened.

"you didn't think it would be that easy, did you?" brenner inquired, growing closer again.

"I-I don't understand." el meekly shook her head.

"I do." brenner simply replied. the elevator door behind us arrived and opened with a whirring noise. we had the chance to escape.

brenner held his hand out, for el to take, she glared down at it before looking to the elevator, then to me and lastly back to brenner.

"papa?" she spoke, her voice practically silent.

"daughter." he replied, his gaze then flickering to me, "daughters."

I despised this. the man who murdered my parents was calling me his daughter??

el took his hand, but I didn't. instead, I took her other hand and in a line, where I wasn't holding brenner's hand, we walked back up to the nina tank.
