Daniel unlocked his phone and opened his text messages with Jakiyah. Instead of texting her back, he pressed the FaceTime button. With his back against the black headboard, he looked at himself in the screen and waited for her to answer the phone.

His eyes were heavy and hard to hold open, but Daniel's low eyes weren't due to exhaustion. Percs were the reason Daniel's eyes were droopy and half closed.

After being sober for six days, Daniel knew he should've been disappointed in himself for breaking his sobriety again. He wanted to blame Analise and Kenzo for his actions, but he still made the choice to pop the pills. In spite of making the choice, Daniel knew he would've never broken his sobriety if it weren't for being confronted about Jakiyah. Her texts alone weren't enough to make him pop pills because he came to terms with the ending of their relationship since it was best for them.

However, being confronted about his past triggered the thoughts he'd manage to bury in the depths of his brain. Daniel had gone through the last few months like Jakiyah never existed because he'd rather pretend their relationship never happened than to dwell on it. Kenzo knew this, too, which made him even more upset because she understood the outcome of telling Analise.

To keep himself from completely lashing out on Analise and taking his emotions on her, he used drugs to ease the pain. But now, he'd take his emotions out on the person who made him feel the way he did.

On the third ring, the FaceTime call was connected. Jakiyah had her phone propped up on something while she put her red hair up into a claw clip. He recognized the white headboard behind her, so he knew she was at home.

"You are high as shit," she pointed out.

"Yeah, thanks to ya dumbass," he said.

Jakiyah rolled her eyes. "Boy, Ian do nothin' to your ass."

"Textin' my phone knowing I live with my girl?" He raised an eyebrow.

"Damn, you let her go through your phone?"

He smacked his teeth. "Nah, but I left it with her. Now, she over here askin' me about you when you and everybody else knows that Ion wanna fuckin' hear about your goofy ass."
