Chapter 51: Carina's Past 2

3 weeks in Seattle.

Long day at work, plunged myself on the couch, finally moved into my new apartment. It's so relaxing and so peaceful, the view is out of this world. My phone went off, (Carina) "hello. Who is this"? (Vincenzo) "my little girl", (Carina) "what do you want", (Vincenzo) "your mama died", (Carina) "what are you talking about"? (Vincenzo) "she had a stroke. She's gone", (Carina) "that's not true. Mama is here where I am", (Vincenzo) "no. She came back to Italy, she's gone baby", Carina cried, her dad heard her tears through the phone. (Carina) "papa does Andrew know", (Vincenzo) "no", Carina couldn't speak to her father anymore, she hung on the phone. She covered herself with the blanket and cried.

There was a knock at the door, she found that awkward when she hadn't invited no one over, she really didn't know anyone in the neighborhood. She answered the door to be surprised by the face at the other end.

(Carina) "Andrea", (Andrew) "hi Carina", (Carina) "I thought you went back with mama", (Andrew) "I have a job here. I couldn't just leave", (Carina) "where do you work"? (Andrew) "Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital", Carina looked up in surprise. (Andrew) "what have you heard about the hospital", (Carina) "I work there", (Andrew) "you did. For how long", (Carina) "just 3 weeks. I'm an OB", (Andrew) "congratulations", (Carina) "thanks", (Andrew) "are you okay. It looks like you have been crying. Have you been crying"? (Carina) "Andrew. I have to tell you something serious", (Andrew) "tell me what", (Carina) "I don't know how to tell you this", (Andrew) "just spill it", (Carina) "mama died. She had stroke", (Andrew) "who told you that? I just spoke to mama, she was fine. She said her and dad somehow got back together. And she was happy", (Carina) "papa called me. Before you showed up here, he called me. Explaining it to me, Andrew I'm sorry. She's gone", Andrew felt his chest become tight, his older sister put her arms around him. He hugged her back, (Carina) "I love you", (Andrew) "I love you too".

(Carina) "anyways I have to meet up with my girlfriend", (Andrew) "you have a girlfriend", (Carina) "yeah. Her name's Maya, she's a firefighter".

(Another flashback)
Vincenzo started to become violent, tossing Carina around like a rag doll. Poor girl had been treated badly. His mental health was getting worse and he wasn't able to control it. He hurt her. (Andrew) "leave her alone", (Vincenzo) "shut up. Go upstairs", (Carina) "papa please leave me alone", he slapped her across the face. She bursted into the tears, running to her room and locking the door. (Lucia) "don't worry about him my little girl", (Carina) "he's beating me mama. I don't wanna stay here. He's hurting me", (Lucia) "I'm sorry Niña", she kissed the top of her head. She rushed out of her daughter's room and to the living room, to speak with her husband who was on the couch drinking a beer. (Vincenzo) "why'd you do that? I was watching that", (Lucia) "you put your hands on Carina", (Vincenzo) "she needs to learn", (Lucia) "learn what. You don't beat on Andrew, why are you beating on her. Stop hitting her. You are hurting her and you are scaring her", (Vincenzo) "I will do what I want. I'm the man of this house and I will do what I want".
(End of flashback)

(Andrew) "did you meet everyone at the hospital", (Carina) "I met almost everyone except Amelia, Maggie and Meredith", (Andrew) "Meredith is pretty cool", (Carina) "you like her don't ya", (Andrew) "maybe. Just maybe", (Carina) "I've never seen you so daydreaming", (Andrew) "I can't help it, I think she's special. I really like her Carina", (Carina) "and if you really like her then you should ask her out. It would be good for you", (Andrew) "there's one more thing", (Carina) "what is it". (Andrew) "she has three children", (Carina) "wow. Are you up for that", (Andrew) "yeah. I'm up for it".

(Andrew) "mama would be proud of you", he said as a test dropped from his eye just talking about their mother. (Carina) "you really think so", (Andrew) "yeah. She would be so proud of you", (Carina) "I gotta go Andrew", (Andrew) "where are you going", (Carina) "I have a date", (Andrew) "with Maya", (Carina) "yes with Maya", (Andrew) "okay. Have fun", (Carina) "I will", (Andrew) "I love you", (Carina) "I love you more", Carina left to her apartment. (Andrew) "can I stay here for a while", (Carina) "what ever happened to that girl you we're dating", (Andrew) "we broke up. Can I just stay here for a bit", (Carina) "yeah. But please don't mess up my apartment. I plan to come home to a clean house and enjoy my night with my girlfriend", Andrew "I will. I won't ruin your apartment", (Carina) "okay good".
Andrew danced around in Carina's living room until he had fallen asleep from eating his sorrows away from his breakup. (Maya) "I had so much fun today", (Carina) "me too. You know the night doesn't have to end right now", (Maya) "are you sure. I don't wanna intrude", (Carina) "of course", (Maya) "okay", carina opened the door and they entered her apartment. (Maya) "who's", (Carina) "my little brother. Just come to my room", she said escorting Maya pass the living room and into her bedroom.

Carina made the choice to leave Italy because of her father, he had been abusing her and she could not longer take the pain she was suffering from the result of his actions. Carina and Andrew lost their mother. Carina didn't wanna give up on her father but he pushed her to the edge. She was so frightened because of him. After Carina lost her mother, things had changed for her.

That leaves her to where she is today, the lead of her medical team at work. Married to the best female fire chief there is, and the mother of their children. Carina wouldn't change anything for the world, she wouldn't change how she left Italy, because without that happening she wouldn't the the successful woman she is today.
