Season 3/Chapter 14: What Keeps Us Going

3rd Pov. 

At the armory, the group arrives outside a building while they stay ducked behind a wall that's close by the building. Before they go in, the trio of people make a plan to get passed without a guard being alerted by their movements. 

Ava: Stay frosty, gents.

Gabe: What's that mean?

Javier: Like "stay cool", buddy.

They all notice a guard in front of the door. 

Ava: Looks like Bob's on duty. I'll distract him away from the door and meet you inside. There might be more of them.

Ava walks up to Bob and starts to talk. While she does, Javier and Gabe chat. 

Javier: Remember what I said about staying cool.

Gabe: I've done this before, Javi.

Javier: No, you haven't, Gabe. Not really. Some decisions, you make them in a split second and then have to carry them the rest of your life. You understand?

Gabe nods. 

Gabe: Yeah. I think I do. How can we trust Ava that she won't turn us in? Can we really trust her?

Javier: Your father trusts her. And we trust him, right?

Gabe: Yeah. 

Javier: Then we should be okay. I hope.

Gabe: How do you know when you can trust someone? I feel like I've never really known anyone other than you and Kate, Mariana and what I remembered of my dad.

Javier thinks for a moment and comes up with a fine enough answer. 

Javier: Through their actions. They can try to confuse you with their words, but someone worth your trust does good things.

Gabe: Makes sense.

Soon, Ava makes Bob walk away. 

Javier: I think we're up. She sure is a big help.

Javier opens the door. He and Gabe enter the building with nobody other than Bob being there. The place still has some people inside, but they're dispersed enough to not automatically know anything is up. 

Javier: Ava said it'd be this way.

Gabe: It's down here. The guns are through that door.

Javier tries to unlock the door, but to no avail.

Javier: Locked. No time to look for a key, either. Have to do this the hard way.

He grabs a fire extinguisher that's nearby on the wall and smashes the door open with the said fire extinguisher. He and Gabe enter the armory room; Javi takes his backpack and baseball bat. Javi hands a gun to Gabe.

Javier: Put these in your bag.

Javi puts a pistol in the duffel bag. 

Gabe: We've never done this before. Just you and me. We make a pretty good team, right? The uncle/nephew one-two punch!

Javier: It's not over yet. We need to keep our heads in the game.

The door suddenly opens again and Ava walks in, startling the two. 

Ava: Heh. Sorry to scare you. When we get back to Eleanor's, we need to talk to those people about doing the right thing by this place. I'll meet you at the entrance.

Everyone leaves the room. As Javi and Gabe walk through a hallway, they hear someone approaching. One of the people who had been in the place but just not near where they'd previously entered.
