Responsibility

As the two of us walked together in the quiet of the night, I knew that I'd be heading home soon to get some much-needed rest.

"Kyo," she suddenly said, catching me off guard. I looked at her, waiting for her to continue.

But she just grinned and said, "Nothing."

I nodded, feeling the awkwardness of the silence between us.

"By the way, K-Kasumi."

"Yes, Kyo?"

I hesitated for a moment before asking, "What school are you in right now?"

"Hanasakigawa Girls' High School! I'm a third year."

"So you'll be graduating soon, huh..."

"Yeah," she replied cheerfully, "The start of my third year will be this last summer, so we'd have to create a perfect song before that happens!"

I couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm. "And I'll make sure that we'll create a perfect song before that happens."

Kasumi looked at me with determination in her eyes. "Yeah!"

After a few minutes of walking, Kasumi suddenly stopped, and I turned to her.

"Kasumi?"

"Eh? Ah! This is my house!"

I glanced at her house and then back at her. "I see."

"See you tomorrow, Kyo!~"

"Yeah... See you."

Kasumi waved cheerfully before entering her gate and house. I returned the wave and continued walking back to my own home.

As I approached my house, I couldn't help but reflect on the situation. "I need to continue," I muttered to myself, a sense of determination welling up within me. "I promised that I would help them create a summer song, yet here I am..."

I entered my house, locked the front door, and went upstairs to my bedroom. Sitting down at my PC, I checked the time. "9:40 PM."

Taking a deep breath, I reminded myself of my commitment. "I have to make sure that this song will be perfect!"

I focused intensely, asking myself why I was doing this, and why I was so determined to help them when it had nothing to do with me. Then, a flashback to my middle school days crossed my mind.

In that memory, I had been part of a group assigned to a festival at an all-boys school. I had goofed around and not taken my role seriously. At first, I thought it would be fine, but in the end, I hadn't taken my responsibility seriously.

I don't even want to think about it.

That's why! This time, I'll take this responsibility!

As I continued working on the song, I remembered the word "feelings" from the tips I had read earlier.

It puzzled me. What did it mean? I couldn't quite grasp its significance.

I worked tirelessly for hours until I lost track of time, and only noticed the morning sun when it began to shine through the windows.

My phone rang suddenly, and I glanced at it. The call was from Marina-san and Kasumi. I decided to ignore it for now and continued working.

My energy was fading, and my body couldn't keep up with my determination. I wanted to keep going, but I couldn't.

Just then, someone wrapped their arms around me from behind and whispered gently, "You've worked hard enough."

I turned to see my sister, who was smiling at me. "Onee...chan," I whispered, my exhaustion evident.

I soon fell asleep, resting my head on her shoulder.

"I think you were still haunted by what happened in middle school," she said softly. "You always want to help, but why do you hesitate to ask for help yourself?"

She glanced at my computer, noticing all the errors and files I had saved.

"What a complete idiot."

"It wasn't your fault," she reassured me.

My sister took my phone and called back Marina-san.

"Hello? Nakasone-kun!?" Marina's voice sounded urgent.

"Kyo-kun is currently asleep."

"Eh?"

"Marina-san?! Is that Kyo!?" Kasumi's voice could be heard in the background.

"Eh? It's a girl's voice." Marina said with a confused tone.

My sister chuckled, "My name is Nakasone Azumi. I am Kyo-kun's sister. You must be Marina-san?"

"Y-Yeah, Where is Nakasone-kun?"

"Hehe, like I said, He's currently asleep... Probably from exhaustion."

"W-What happened!?"

"Fufu~ It's fine... I'll take care of him from now on."

"I-I see... Wait, wait! Kasumi-chan!?"

It seemed like there was chaos on the other end as Kasumi's voice became more distinct, "Uhm! Hello! My name is Kasumi Toyama! U-Uhh! Can we visit Kyo!?"

My sister's eyes widened as she smiled, "Sure~ I'll send you the address."

"Thank you very much!!"

"Hehe, no worries~"

My sister hung up the call and then turned to me, "You have good friends."
