Yun Yu’s face remained cold and stern, as if his icy façade had not been disturbed, as he stared directly at her, making it impossible to discern any fluctuations in his mood.

The hand gripping her collar, however, exerted great force, making it difficult for her to breathe.

“Master, I…” Xu Xuancao stammered, unsure of what to say.

Her senior uncle had once mocked her, saying that her master was always cold and emotionless, lacking any sentiment compared to those automatons.

This was the first time she had seen her master behave like this. Despite his impassive expression, she could sense a hint of instability in his grip.

He forbade her from engaging in romantic relationships, and if he were to find out, he might cause trouble for Bai Sijin.

“What is this?” he repeated, his voice growing more intense.

Xu Xuancao hesitated for a moment, then said, “The snake venom has not been completely cleared from my body. These red marks are remnants of the congestion.”

Yun Yu furrowed his brow, carefully examining the traces of the kiss, seemingly starting to believe her explanation.

After all, he was a grandmaster in his field and had only heard that intimate encounters between men and women could leave red marks on the body, but had never witnessed it himself.

In his eyes, Xu Xuancao was extremely obedient and would never go against his wishes or have secret relationships with other men.

He took a deep breath, realizing that he had made a fuss over nothing. Such matters were not conducive to cultivation and should be avoided in the future.

Xu Xuancao’s heart was pounding. This was the first time she had lied to her master.

When someone who had never told a lie before began to deceive, their words would be highly convincing.

Yun Yu scrutinized her and asked, “Apart from this, do you have any other marks?”

Xu Xuancao, feeling embarrassed, quickly buttoned up her collar and nodded, “They will fade away in a while, Master, you don’t need to worry.”

“Hmm.”

Xu Xuancao excused herself, not wanting to disturb his cultivation, and hurriedly left Yun Yu’s gaze.

Since then, Xu Xuancao wrapped her neck with a white scarf. After two full days, the kiss marks gradually faded from her skin until they disappeared completely.

For the next half month at the Guiyun Sect, Xu Xuancao assisted her master in managing sect affairs, leading a busy and fulfilling life.

During this period, she received a reply from Fei He, as well as a letter from Lin Xuanshu, assuring her that Ruan Niang was not a demon and that she need not worry.

Xu Xuancao laughed and scolded herself, “Idiot!”

“Xuancao, the first time I saw you, I felt a strong sense of familiarity. My younger sister died in a demon incident when she was eight years old. If she had grown up, she would be around your age.”

Xu Xuancao knew for certain that she couldn’t be his sister. She had no recollection or impression of Lin Xuanshu.

Memories before the age of eight were hazy, and she seemed to have always been with her master.

Apart from Lin Xuanshu’s letter, there was nothing else.

Xu Xuancao felt a slight sense of disappointment.

Perhaps he was truly angry.

Taking a moment of respite amidst her busy schedule, a disciple came running in, drenched in sweat, hastily informing her that the seal she had placed in the Demon Suppression Cave had been forcefully broken.

Although the disciples managed to arrive in time and recapture many demonic beasts, some cunning ones slipped through the cracks, posing a potential threat to the residents at the foot of the mountain.

Xu Xuancao hurriedly descended the mountain and contacted the village chief, reminding him of the recent demonic beast activity and urging the villagers to reduce their outings and gather together as much as possible.

The village had always been under the protection of the Guiyun Sect and held Xu Xuancao in high regard, fully complying with her arrangements.

“Village Chief, Uncle Genzi is injured!” a young man supported an elderly man, rushing over breathlessly.

The village chief quickly supported the injured villager and asked, “How did he get injured?”

“It seems there’s a monster in the forest.”

Xu Xuancao said to the young villager, “Lead the way for me. Show me where the monster is.”

“I dare not go,” the young villager trembled and pointed at the injured old man. “I still need to take Uncle Genzi to see the doctor.”

The village chief said, “By now, the doctor should be out gathering herbs. Hopefully, they won’t encounter the monster.”

Upon hearing the word “doctor,” Xu Xuancao inexplicably felt a pang of anxiety, and an image of a figure in white flashed through her mind.

She collected herself, no longer forcing the issue, and inquired about the route where the demonic beast had appeared before leaving with her sword.

The village was surrounded by dense forests, shrouding it in darkness. The demonic beasts were difficult to find.

Xu Xuancao followed the path indicated by the villagers and saw a medicine basket lying on the ground, with a few herbs spilling out.

Recalling what the village chief had said about a doctor going up the mountain to gather herbs, could it be that the doctor had encountered danger?

Xu Xuancao remained alert, searching for any traces. She caught a faint scent of demonic beast near the cave.

She swiftly entered the cave and discovered it was a limestone cave. Water penetrated through the ceiling, casting slanting rays of sunlight, creating a beautiful interplay of light and shadow on the walls.

From deep within the cave came a deafening roar.

Following the sound, Xu Xuancao saw a gigantic dog-like demonic beast with a gaping mouth, roaring at an elongated figure.

Drawing closer, she noticed strands of golden light, gentle and ethereal, brushing against the figure as if bestowing a divine presence upon them.

Xu Xuancao recognized the person’s face and was shocked and amazed. It felt like a massive wave surging toward her, tossing her heart up and down.

The person sat cross-legged in the depths of the cave, facing the intimidation of the demonic beast, their eyes closed, their handsome face calm as still water.

Their legs were stained with mud, seemingly injured.

The canine beast bared its fangs, drooling, its crimson mouth wide open, seemingly about to bite off the person’s head.
