BOOK NAME; THE ALPHA KING AND HIS FATED QUEEN•••••••••••
Murmuring echoed throughout the hall, the little whispers and exchange of nervous excitement quieted down when the King mounted the podium, accompanied by his human bride and the rest of his court. Cautious eyes guided with precision recorded the guards stationed at specific places, weapons in their holsters and stoic expressions adding to their seriousness. They had not come to fool around today, it was expected seeing as the king and his most treasured were here in the midst of the common media men. Why he gave so much importance to a mere human was incredulous but he was not in the position to question the king, nor was he here to consume any of the information the king was here to relay.
The journalists stood clustered together, inching closer and closer to where the source of attraction stood proudly, his hands intertwined with his beloved's. The scratching sound of quilt pens ferociously writing, drawing, trying to capture the moment into the bleak figurines of words or the careful turn and swoops of drawings. Images and curvings that would occupy the front pages of the newspapers for the upcoming months, different tales formulated for the consumption of the public, both highborn and those of low status would be reading this information for it was straight from the lips of the emperor himself. The news was something that gave no regards to status, or standing. It trolled many and forgave none, no mercy for the truth was not a bed of roses, it was a carefully covered stack of thorns, waiting to prick whoever was foolish enough to stumble upon its sharp realities.
The gossip mongers carried bits and pieces of truths, carefully coated with quiet whispers of curiosities and speculations but only the journalists carried authenticity with every splutter of their ink on the white sheets, only they got the glorified title of the truth Sayers, as many that were not under the control of powerful men and women.
All but one journalist among the crowd was angsty and giddy with excitement. All but one came with a mission to collect the biggest news of their life, one came to collect a life but whose remained untold. He gazed on, calculating, the screws in his head turning as his eyes flickered around, monitoring, waiting for the perfect opportunity. Like a predator stalling his prey.
Every pair of ears were drawn to the king whence he began his speech, "I have summoned all of you journalists here to be the witnesses to this that I shall declare today" the king began, stepping forward, away from his target. The nameless assassin shifted his sights to his prey, measuring the angle and distance to which he would be required to strike. He adjusted through the crowd, stealthily, quietly, his footsteps were bearly heard as he manoeuvred.
"For centuries we have lived amongst humans not with them as equals but with them subjected as our slaves, our maids, as lower species. But that is all about to chnage" he looked into the crowd then back at the source of his life, the very bane of his existence, the one who he would walk into hell and back out for. He drew strength from the little smile she sent his way, "As many might know I have been bestowed by the goddess with a gift so precious, so beautiful, so radiant. It does not matter if she is human, for she is my mate and your future queen" gasps erupted but were quickly dissolved as he continued with even more excitement.
"As I take her as my bride I cannot stand to see her people being tortured and reduced to less. I as the King of this empire, from my eternal soul declare that from this day henceforth, from this moment going forward the slavery of humans is hereby forbidden from the empire"
Everywhere exploded into shouts of protest and surprised uproar.
"All current human omegas are to be freed and allowed to leave to whichever pack they wish to inhabit. If any maid is to be retained it must be purely by their will and not be coercion or force"
The invisible assassin watched as the crowd became more and more restless, knowing it was only a matter of seconds before the plan would commence. As if on cue the large doors of the hall burst open and a flood of people came pouring in, cries and shouts filling the air with chaos and disorderliness.
He smiled to himself, ready to execute his plan. The journalists broke out in a panicked chase, escaping with what little chance they had. A stampede ensued, guards trying to control the people without resulting to force or using their weapons. Fear struck the face of the human bride as she watched on in completely dismay. The assassin settled for a close range to the door, ready to take off after the job was done. He pulled out his bow, the little arrow that had it's tip dripping with a toxin situated on the tight rope. He pulled it back, aiming at the human bride.
He discarded his journalist attire, pulling up his mask to conceal his identity before he pulled the arrow back, aimed and fired. The arrow pierces through the air, approaching the unbeknownst bride.
Suddenly in the blink of an eye the King came out of nowhere and pulled his bride into his arms, turning her away from the impending arrow and shielding her with his back. The arrow pierced through skin, penetrating and breaking through the first layer. A loud growl shook the entire hall and everyone fell to their knees, subject to the alpha's voice. Audrey winced, tears gathering in her eyes as she registered half of an arrow, sticking out of Darius's shoulder. A muffled scream left her lips before she slapped a hand against her mouth, tears free falling down her cheeks, her heart dropping down to her stomach in shock, fear and nausea.
The invisible assassin cursed under his breath. He had missed his mark. The piercing golden eyes of the king met his, the power and fury in them enough to cripple armies and an entire nation. But he was not affected by the alpha's rippling effect that seemed to further affect the entire hall of wolves. He made a beeline for the exit, swiftly dodging all the whimpering journalists.
"Find him!" Darius bellowed, his canines bared, his nose flaring and his jaw clenched with rage. He charged into the crowd, ready to hunt down the bastard that dared to shoot an arrow at his bride. The guards went before him, their swords drawn and ready for blood. Darius felt a soft grip on his arms and he turned around to see Audrey, her face tear stricken, her eyes glazed over in pain, sadness and fear.
"Please don't go. You- you're injured" her gaze drifted down to the forgotten arrow that had struck him. The rage bubbling through him made him forget it was there, the only thing he could see was blood. Audrey came closer, palming his cheek and letting all the emotions she felt filter through the salty droplets that tainted her cheeks, "Please come with me, the guards can handle it"
"No. That bastard tried to fire at you and he will loose his head for it!" His eyes had melted into a fiery blaze, the gold flakes consuming his once dark orbs. Audrey knew if she did not manage to calm him soon then he would go on a rampage and frighten everyone. Why was he so stubborn? Could he not see he was was bleeding? Why did his love for her always blind him so?
"Darius, my king please" she begged, her voice breaking. His eyes softened as he finally acknowledged her fragile state, his eyes dimming back to its original hue. She took hold of his hand and he allowed her lead him away, some of the remaining guards escorting them back to their carriage.
