Tress POV
I never thought I could feel something like this again—a warmth so comforting, that it seemed to cradle me in the embrace of a long-forgotten past. For years, my life had been a storm, chaos tearing through every corner of my existence, leaving only ruin behind. The destruction I had unleashed still lingered in my mind, the raw power that had left the world trembling in my wake. Yet, here I was, cocooned in a peace I hadn't known in years.
The warmth wrapped around me like an old, familiar melody, soft and nostalgic. It reminded me of something I'd buried deep—a place I had once called home. The memory tugged faintly at my heartstrings, a bittersweet ache. I hadn't felt this... safe in as long as I could remember.
My eyes fluttered open slowly, the remnants of sleep fading away. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, there had been no nightmares clawing at the edges of my consciousness. No shadows. No screams.
Just calm.
And then, I saw him.
"...!" My breath caught, and my heart stumbled as I realized the position I was in.
My entire body stiffened, my cheeks burning as the scene before me became painfully clear. I was curled up in his arms, his jacket draped over me like a protective shield. Killua's face was relaxed, his silver hair catching the faint light in soft waves. He looked peaceful, more so than I had ever seen him before.
The world felt too quiet, too still, as though even the universe had paused to mock me. Before I could decide what to do, his eyelids flickered, and then his sapphire blue eyes locked onto mine with a small smile curving his lips.
"Oh, you're awake," he murmured.
"...!" Something snapped inside me.
THUD!
I shoved him away with a force that sent him toppling back comically.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" I demanded, my voice rising an octave higher than I intended. I clutched his jacket closer around me, as though it could shield me from the embarrassment burning through my entire being.
"Oww... Geez, this is the thanks I got for keeping you warm the whole night?" Killua rubbed the back of his head.
My eyes narrowed, and my heart was still racing. Heart? Racing? I never had a racing heart in ages!
"I don't need your help," I snapped, but the words felt hollow.
He chuckled softly, standing and stretching like nothing had happened.
"Sure," he replied, his smirk only growing. "You're welcome, by the way."
I opened my mouth to retort but found myself at a loss. My face burned even hotter as I turned away. This boy was insufferable. And yet, deep down, a small, reluctant part of me couldn't deny that for one brief, fleeting moment... I had felt at peace.
'Peace...? As if someone like me had the privilege to feel peace.'
My mind was a swirling storm of emotions that refused to settle. I couldn't shake the memory of last night—how everything had unraveled. The weight of my actions hung heavy in the air between us.
I had revealed everything. The truth about who I was—a member of the E-10. No. 3, to be precise. The Association's Angel of Death... The very name struck fear into even the bravest hearts. For years, I had been a shadow, a weapon, a harbinger of destruction. My hands bore the stains of lives taken, and I knew that people like me didn't deserve peace.
