Rin POV
I took a deep, shaky breath. "Okay, okay. I can fix this. I just have to walk out there like nothing happened. Act normal."
Gon turned to look at me with a worried expression. "But Rin, you just screamed into your hands five seconds ago."
I shot him a glare. "Shut up, Gon!"
Taking another breath, I squared my shoulders and marched toward the door. 'Confidence,' I told myself. 'Dignity.' I could totally walk out there and pretend last night never happened.
SLAM!
I swung the door open. And immediately regretted it.
Standing right outside was a huge crowd of villagers, all staring at me and Gon with a mixture of knowing smirks, excitement, and outright cheering.
"Good morning, lovebirds!" someone shouted.
"Congratulations on your first night together!" another villager teased.
"Gon, you should've told us you were bringing your wife!"
I could feel my soul leave my body.
"W-WIFE?! EXCUSE ME?!" I shrieked.
The crowd roared with laughter, some even clapping like this was the best morning entertainment they'd ever had. Gon, of course, had the audacity to avert my gaze. "Huh? Wife? Rin, did we get married last night?"
'He must've done something last night to cause this HUGE misunderstanding! Wasn't he supposed to marry the island princess? Why the hell am I his wife?!'
POW!
I punched him.
"Ouch! What was that for, Rin?"
"For being an idiot!" I hissed through gritted teeth.
I turned back to the crowd, my face burning. "LISTEN UP, EVERYONE!" I jabbed a finger at Gon. "I AM NOT HIS WIFE. NOTHING HAPPENED. I REPEAT-NOTHING. HAPPENED!"
The villagers winked at me. "Sure, sure, whatever you say, sweetheart!"
'OH MY GODDDDD!'
Gon was still rubbing his arm where I had punched him and grinned. "Well, since they already think we're married, should we at least get some free food out of it?"
I threw my shoe at him. But Gon effortlessly dodged my shoe like it was second nature. "You really need to work on your aim, Rin."
"You're the one who has crazy reflexes! You're enjoying this, aren't you?"
He smiled. "Yeah."
I had it.
With my face still burning, I whirled around and stormed off toward the breakfast area. Dignity be damned-I needed food to survive this humiliation!
Gon followed me while still looking way too amused for someone who was partially responsible for my suffering. As we entered the open dining area, I immediately noticed how everyone was looking at us. The moment we stepped inside, the chatter in the room dropped to hushed whispers, and then-
Clap! Clap! Clap!
I froze.
'...Did someone just start a slow clap?!'
Before I could fully process what was happening, more people joined in. The entire village was now applauding us. I felt my soul try to exit my body again.
"What is wrong with you, people?!" I shrieked.
"Honeymoon couple's first breakfast together!" one of the villagers cooed. "How romantic!"
