I did not see Luce for the rest of the weekend. Nor did I hear from her. I could not sleep. Waiting for at least a message from her to assure me. Assure me that what he really said was lies. I messaged Gale but she, also, was not replying either. I tried calling her, no one would pick up. I tried calling Seth but he said that she had not seen her. That she was always in her room. He could not go in because it was locked. He could not even talk to his own sister.

"Luke? Are you okay?" A voice asked me.

I did not even have to turn around to know who it was. I slammed my locker door close. "Zach, what do you want?" I said, weakly, looking forlornly at the dirty tiles of the school.

He sighed, "You haven't said anything since you came here. Is it still about her?"

I laughed but my laughter was humorless. Just like his. Right now, I wanted to punch him. Punch him until he bleeds. "Yeah! I feel great! I feel amazing." My voice broke when I said the last line.

He was about to answer but the school doors opened.

Luce came in. Her hair was tangled and tied into a messy ponytail. She had dark rings around her eyes that was red and puffy. She was wearing the school uniform. A white shirt with a plaid skirt and tie. The white jacket was tied around her waist. I noticed that the first two buttons on her shirt as unbuttoned. And her shining chocolate brown eyes were dull. There wasn't any life in them. She looked broken.

She didn't look like the Luce I know.

Eyes full of life. Pink lips turned up into a smile. Her cheeks a rosy red.

"Luce!" I shouted, running towards her.

I was about to pull her in for a hug but she put up a hand to stop me, her hand resting on my chest.

"Luce," my voice was weak, quiet. "What're you doing?"

Her eyes were tearing up, "I'm sorry Lucas. I just... I just can't."

She looked even more vulnerable.

Then she ran away. I looked after her, "Luce?"
