(A/N Updates will be coming really frequently, cause I'm on holiday and there's a lot of requests I want to get done because I've put them off for long enough. XD)

Warning: This oneshot is over 4000 words. *cringes* I totally went overboard, I hope it was worth it though. Enjoy! :-)

No matter the color that would appear from the edge of the forest, Remus couldn't find the creature that belonged to it after the first glance. Whatever it was, it was obviously intelligent. It moved across the forest with a fast precision, it's body catching just a gleam of the sunlight against a dark tree before moving back deeper in the forest. They started appearing the year they mastered being Animagi, and he'd always assumed Sirius had been fooling with him. Then Sirius started seeing it too, with Remus right at his side.

The animal never showed itself, if that was what it even was. It appeared more and more frequently, quietly watching before it's deep eyes made contact with Remus' searching ones and it scampered off. It left no tracks that even magic could find, no charm could be cast to find the identity or origin of their new friend.

You watched from the darkness of the trees for the third day in a row, not including the second visit during the first day. You were mesmerized, the three boys Peter, Sirius, and James had all managed to accomplish something you didn't think was possible outside of yourself. You'd caught them a few times, once a month or so, if you'd been counting correctly. For a while you'd wondered by Remus couldn't transform like the others, but it became clear he couldn't make the cut. From what you remembered of your own transformation, it was difficult and exhausting and life threatening. You barely remembered it, that was enough to indicate it wasn't something worth recalling. Remus may not of held the same power, but he was definitely aware of it and that was dangerous as he started to notice you more often.

You couldn't help it though. Trying to figure them out was your first goal, but now it was just the sheer amazement at these four young boys who had accomplished something that was nearly impossible at their age. They were too young to register, and would likely remain illegal like you for their entire lives. You scouted along the forest edge, careful not to even touch the light against the ground from the sun far above. Remus still noticed you, you were sure he did. His dark eyes peered through the trees and your protective layer of darkness and fur, seeing right to your soul through your human eyes. He jotted something quickly with a pen against a ripped portion of paper from a notebook, then left with his friends. He returned every day at lunch, just a few minutes before the next period started. Searching for you, for answers just like you were.

Visiting them again seemed too dangerous. You watched them from afar during classes, in the common room, in the great hall at meals. It didn't have the same exhilarating feeling to it. You may have still held the same eyes as when you transformed, but not the same mind. There was no feeling of constantly being on the edge, watching and listening from every angle, waiting for the moment when you would need to decide between fighting or fleeing. In that moment, your mind would no longer have to assess. There would be no more smelling the slow wind, no more anxiously padding against the ground with your quiet feet, just a pure feeling of either confidence or fear and the instinct that lead that emotion.

Almost an entire month had passed since you'd caught them sneaking from their dormitories, and running free in their animal forms across the courtyard and dark forest. You suspected it would happen again soon, and couldn't hold back your excitement. You were Remus's friend, bonding over the library where he approached you to speak about the book you were holding. You sat with him during breakfast, and they were all oddly silent. You too stayed quiet, but only out of habit. They had gotten used to your silence, but never stopped teasing you about it. Today there was none, and it seemed wasted because Remus looked too tired to retaliate their teasing. Maybe that was why they aren't teasing me, you thought. You wanted to say something, but couldn't think of what to say. You could only think about when you would next see them, tonight hopefully, in their Animagi form. You became more and more excited as the day passed, and more anxious. Today could be the day they catch you, once and for all. In Animagus form, there was a clear scar across your stomach that was shared with your human body. Left over from a muggle surgery to remove your appendix,  you told Remus. He noticed it once during a Quidditch game, when you had worn your shorter friends old Quidditch jersey and it lifted up when you were cheering. You were too scared to think of a better lie, but because your mother was a muggle he seemed to believe it. You didn't know where the scar actually came from, just that it happened sometime during the time you couldn't remember of your childhood.
