"Granger?!" Draco yelled furiously.
Pacing back and forth in anger, Draco Malfoy glared at Hermione Granger as if she'd just destroyed everything he'd worked for. Which, to be fair, she kind of had.
"H-hey," Hermione replied, her eyes darting between Draco and me.
"Of course it's that filthy mudblood," Draco scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Shut up, Draco," I spoke, turning to Hermione. "This isn't her fault. It's mine. I should've been more careful."
Draco's eyes narrowed even further. "Now what are we going to do? She knows our biggest secret!"
I swallowed hard, my throat dry. "How much did you hear?"
The brunette girl looked down at the hem of her robe, nervously twirling the fabric between her trembling fingers. "Well...everything."
"Were you spying on us?!" Draco asked angrily, clutching his fists.
"N-no! I was just heading back from the library," she stammered. "I...I just wanted to listen for a bit. I shouldn't have."
"Damn right you shouldn't have." Draco muttered under his breath.
I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. "On the bright side, it wasn't Pansy or Harry," I said, more to myself than anyone else.
"But she'll tell them!" Draco exclaimed, his voice rising again. His wild eyes locked onto me. "She'll tell everyone! And then everything's ruined!"
I stepped closer to Hermione, my eyes filled with desperation. "Mione, you can't tell anyone. Promise me. No matter what happens, you have to keep this secret."
"Why?" She asked, placing her hands on her hips.
"Hermione Granger," I muttered, sighing and rubbing my temples. "I'll explain everything back in the dorms. Just...please, don't say anything."
Hermione hesitated but eventually nodded. "Okay."
Sighing, I walked back to Draco Malfoy, who stood tense, his anger unmistakable.
