Chapter 26: Heartaches

Heartaches

Penelope's POV

I sat on the floor with my back against my bed as I stared in nothing in particular. I've been like this for the past two days. Ayokong pumasok sa school dahil baka makita ko siya at baka bumalik lang ako sa kanya.

Sa loob-loob ko ay gusto ko siyang balikan. Gusto kong humingi ng tawad sa kanya at magmaka-awa pero hindi pwede. Ang kailangan ko nalang isipin ngayon ay para sa kanya din ang lahat ng ito. He's better off without me.

Nakayuko ako at nakapatong ang mukha ko sa binti ko habang humihikbi. So this is what they call a heartbreak. I've never felt like this when Jeremy and I broke up. I guess, Maddox is my first love and not Jeremy.

Napa-angat ako ng tingin nang biglang bumukas ang pinto ng kwarto ko.

"Penelope where are-" Napatigil si Cara sa paghanap sa akin ng magtama ang mga mata namin. Nawala agad ang malawak na ngiti nito sa mukha. "What happened?"

Agad nitong binitawan ang hawak na box ng pizza at saka lumuhod sa tabi ko at ipinatong ang kamay sa balikat ko.

"Insan, bakit ka umiiyak? Anong nangyari sayo?" Nag-aalala nitong tanong.

"We broke up, Cara. It's over." I replied and started crying again.

She only hugged me and patted my back to console me. "It's okay. I'm here. You can tell me everything."

Hinintay muna nitong matapos ako sa pag-iyak bago tinanong kung ano ba talaga ang nangyari. She's my cousin and my bestfriend. I trust her so I told her everything, from an unexpected visit from Maddox's father until the day I broke up with him.

I might not be talking clearly, but Cara stayed patient and listened. When I'm done, I couldn't help but sob again.

"Bakit hindi mo sinabi sa akin agad? Kung hindi pa ako nagpunta dito, hindi ko pa malalaman."

"I'm sorry."

"Sabihin mo sa akin kung saan nakatira yan at makakatikim talaga sa akin." Galit na sambit nito na ang tinutukoy ay ang ama ni Maddox. "He even offered you money! Naku! Kumukulo ang dugo ko sa taong yan ah."

Cara pinched the bridge of her nose and hissed. "Did you tell Maddox about his father?"

"No. I couldn't." I replied while shaking my head.

"You should've told Maddox. I'm sure he's heartbroken as you are right now. Why did you let his father ruin your relationship?"

"I can't tell him. He will end up hating his father and I don't want that. Tama naman ang sinabi niya tungkol sa akin eh."

"Are you crazy?! You believed what that old man said? Maniwala ka sa akin Penelope, you are more than enough. That old hag clearly doesn't see your worth." Then Cara crossed her arms over her chest. "Tell me, pumapasok ka pa ba? How long have you been not attending school?"

"Two days."

"Penelope naman! Wag mong sayangin ang pag-aaral mo. The Penelope I know is strong and a fighter." Sermon sa akin ni Cara at napatingin sa orasan.

"You know what? Hindi ko hahayaang pabayaan mo ang pag-aaral mo nang dahil lang sa heartbreak. If I need to drag you to school, I will." Disedido nitong sambit.

"But what if I see Maddox?"

"Just act like your old self. Kung hindi niya kayang makita ang tunay na budhi ng ama niya, pabayaan mo na siya. Let's go. Tabe a bath at ihahatid na kita."

If Cara didn't come, I could've stayed in my room all day, crying. Pagkatapos maligo ay ito na mismo nag-ayos ng buhok ko, kulang na nga lang ito na din ang magbihis sakin. She almost drag me to my car ang took the key from me so she can drive.
