"Quinton, why do you have to be so boring?" (Y/N) asked. Quinton, being Quinton, replied in an monotonous voice,

"Is that so?" he asked, seeming neither offended or interested. He continued reading his book peacefully beside her. (Y/N) was used to Quinton's silent readings, but she continuously wished the seconds wouldn't drag on so tediously. She didn't shift from her spot on Quinton's bed, but rather pondered the thought whether there really was anything that could snap her from her bored, hazy state.

"Yeah," she answered, murkily staring up at the repetitive ceiling in boredom. Small wisps of light filtered from the windowsill, catching the soft strands of her (H/C) hair. Faint chirps of afternoon birds made eventual intrances before fading away as quick as they come.

"Then why do you stay here?" Quinton wondered, not taking his deep blue eyes from the book. (Y/N) considered the question. She didn't have an exact answer, only knowing she wanted Quinton's company.

"I guess I'm bored," she figured with a less than enthusiastic shrug. Her boyfriend gave her a warm smile as he flipped a page. "There's nothing to do," (Y/N) complained, an irritated moan escaping her lips.

"You could read a book with me," Quinton suggested calmly. (Y/N) sat up from the bed to send Quinton an unamused stare.

"Really?" she asked sarcastically.

"Really," Quinton replied honestly. I guess there isn't anything better to do, the thought crossed (Y/N)'s mind.

"I guess," she admitted. (Y/N) hopped off the bed, leaving several wrinkles in the lily white blanket. She strolled towards Quinton's bookshelf, stacked neatly in one corner of the large room. Her fingers delicately brushed the covers, her neck straining for a title view. (E/C) orbs scanned the shelf lightly. (Y/N) watched as her hand reached out to grab a thinly paged book.

"Did you find anything you like?" Quinton's untroubled voice asked from across the room. (Y/N) noticed he still hadn't looked up from his text.

"How about this?" she showed him the hard-covered novel she had chosen. Quinton looked up towards her,

"That's an interesting choice," he complimented. With a small smile, (Y/N) sauntered towards the bed where she had been staring only seconds ago.

Humid spring air wafted into the room from the window laying ajar. (Y/N) flopped backwards onto the bed with a breeze. The book cover felt leathery against her light fingers as she sifted it open. She steadied herself onto the pillowcase, then began reading the first words. She prepared herself for a long, tedious, day.

❃ ❃ ❃ ❃ ❃

From the first word to the last sentence, (Y/N) felt herself drifting away from her mind. The words hammered into her consciousness, but the mild climate melted them into a useless phrase without any meaning. She couldn't understand the content, only see plain words stringed in repetitive rows. Lifeless, dulled, unvaried, rows.

With an exasperated groan, (Y/N) set the book aside her. "Quinton, why do you have to be so boring?" (Y/N) repeated in a strained tone.

Her boyfriend set his own novel aside to glance at her. The light reflected off his deep eyes. (Y/N) could see an ocean of calm behind the blue. "Is that so?" he used the same phrase as the start, this time with a kind smile. Something about the way he looked at (Y/N) encouraged her mood to lighten.

"Yeah," she stifled a small giggle, recalling the exact script they had unawarely practiced before.

"Then why do you stay here?" Quinton questioned her lightly. (Y/N) didn't take a moment to hesitate.

"Because I love you," (Y/N) beamed, her eyes glinting with a new flame of joyous life.

"Even if I am boring?" Quinton replied, his meaningful oceanic eyes compelling (Y/N) to answer. (Y/N) felt freedom reach her with a laugh. Quinton's smile reached out to her heart like a fire sparking in the dark.

"Even if you are boring," she agreed.
