Chapter Seven

Hinatak ako ni JC papasok ng venue. Hindi pa din ako makapaniwala sa nangyari kanina. Joaquin Da Silva likes me! Just the thought of it makes me euphoric. Does love at first sight exist? Yes and that'a how I felt about him.

Tila lumulutang ako nang may pumisil sa pisngi ko.

"Aray naman JC! Makapisil ka wagas!"

Irita kong sigaw sa kanya dahil sa sobrang ingay ng sounds sa dancefloor.

"Sorry Princess. You were not listening kasi."

Nagpuppy dog eyes pa siya.

"Ano ba yun?" Distracted pa din.

"You'll dance with me later ha?!"

"Duh! Yun lang pala eh! Of course I will!"

"Yes! Now go up to the stage and sing." He pushed me near the stage.

Umalis si JC at tumungo naman ako sa emcee.

"Hi po. Ano pong kakantahin ko?" Nahihiya kong tanong. Baka kasi hindi nila feel ang mala- Regine Velasquez kong birit. Hahah! Yabang much!

"The band will resume after you sing so at least 2-3 songs if that's okay?" Tanong ng emcee.

"Okay po. Meron po ba kayong cd ng mga songs para makapili ako?"

"Eto pla yung songs na favorite ng debutant. No vocals and mostly love songs."

Binasa ko mga titles. Lahat ng kakantahin ko will be dedicated to Joaquin.

I chose Sway by Bic Runga, Foolish heart by Steve Perry at yung finale ko Fallin by my idol Regine Velasquez.

Isinalang na ng dj yung cd at nagsimula na akong kumanta. I scanned the whole venue pero hindi ko makita si Joaquin. Medyo nadismaya ako kasi hindi na ako inspired kumanta. Mabuti na lang andyan si JC and his fans na nakikinig at nagswasway habang kumakanta ako.

Last song na... Where art thou my Joaquin?

I scanned again for the last time and he was nowhere in sight.

Nabuhayan ako ng makita ko si Joaquin. He was somewhat smiling.

Hindi ko alam kung natutuwa siya or nang-aasar.

Pagkatapos kung kumanta pumalakpak silang lahat. Dumaan muna ako sa emcee sa backstage. Inabot niya sa akin ang sobre na may tip. Yes, another reason na sinasama ako ni JC sa parties is to sing with a fee. Nag iipon kasi ako ng pambili ng cellphone like nokia 5110. Bibilhan sana ako ni JC pero umayaw ako kasi ayokong isipin ng magulang niya I'm taking advantage of him kaya naisip namin tong raket. Hindi alam ni tatay kasi baka magpumilit siyang bigyan ako kasi malapit na birthday ko.

Paalis na ako nang may humarang sa akin.

"Let's dance."
