Léon's POV

Michael ate the food Marthe had prepared for him, munching on it with a fond expression, already eyeing what he'll eat next. I was glad he was eating somewhat properly again, yet ... I shifted in my seat. There were still so many open questions. "So you will leave for New York now? To chase after her?"

My brother angled the sandwich before he bit into it. "No. I don't care about that now."

My ears must have betrayed me. "W-What!? But you just said-!"

"I'll contact Jessica, Nina and Clarissa first. Sara will push me away no matter what I do, so it's futile if I drop everything and go back. But she won't push them away. I'll have Jess tell her everything she needs to know until she is active again, then I will seek her out. I will stay today and tomorrow in Gordes, then I will leave for Paris with uncle to take part in the meeting we had arranged." Michael sounded as if he was so sure of himself, as if he knew that's how everything would go down – but one thing bothered me.

"You will stay in Paris?", I asked, not believing my ears.

Michael looked up from his plate, straight into my eyes. "It's time to see Uncle Jacques again. It's time I forgive him too."

I didn't know what to say.

"I'll be back home on Monday", Michael planned out loud. "Then I'll search for her. New York. The states. Europe too, if I must. The whole world. I need to solve this between us."

"Everything will be fine!", I quickly reassured.

"We'll see", Michael played with his sandwich. "Even if I don't get her back, I just want her to be happy. It will hurt, but as long as I know she can smile, then my heart can rest easily. I hate the waiting, the not knowing."

I laid a hand on his shoulder. Michael smiled weakly at me, but his eyes were full of determination and made me calm down slightly. "Go to bed", Michael suddenly said. "I'll finish up this report and I'm hitting the hay too."

"Are you sure?" I felt as if I needed to stay longer with him, talk a bit more.

"Yes; I feel better now that we talked. Put the wine back and go join Rebecca. The kids need to get bed-ready too."

Michael's POV

Léon left quietly with a smile and I swirled around in my chair. It was 9 p.m. which meant it was 3 p.m. in the states. I dialled Philipp's number and leaned back. While the line was building up, I pushed the small stack away from me. I had long finished the report.

"Michael?"

"Yes. It's me."

"Thank god, how are you?"

"Better", I brushed my hair back. "Philipp ... I'm sorry for-"

"Long forgotten. You are forgiven", I heard the smile in his voice. "How are you buddy?"

What did I do to deserve such a best friend? "I'm alright to a certain degree. Listen, did Sara come back to the company?"

"She didn't."

"Dammit", I cursed. "Is Jessica near?"

"Of course she is", Philipp laughed. "We are working right now, after all."
