"What?" I whispered, feeling the air being knocked out of my lungs by shock.

"This is my sister, officer." Daeun said, looking at the man in front of her.

"I was at Mark's, I'm sorry I didn't tell you." I took her face in my hands and pulled her close to me.

"The person with the gun is facing a 20.000.000 won fine and up to 10 years in prison, and that's just for illegal use of a firearm. I'm doubting the person has a permit to own one too." The officer said. Right away, my mind went to Seulki. She had attacked Wonpil, escaped, and even tried to poison me. All of that in only two days.

"I have an idea of who might be behind that." I sighed, feeling a headache start. "I'm not accusing anyone though."

"May I ask who you are thinking of?" The man asked.

"Our stepsister, Song Seulki. There have been things going on in the past few days, a friend got attacked and I was delivered a lunch box that could've given me a bad allergic reaction. The people involved all recognized her." I said, standing up and looking at the man who wrote down the name I had given him.

"You didn't think of alerting the authorities?" He questioned.

"I did, but I guess I don't have to anymore. That girl is after me, I had already pressed charges against her for sending me to the hospital. The fine she had gotten seems to not be enough for her." I explained, the officer nodded.

Daeun couldn't sleep that night, I felt so bad and responsible for what happened. I felt like I was endangering her.

"Seulki probably has a gun now." I sent a text to Mark late in the night. I wasn't even expecting him to reply, he was probably sleeping. However, I got a reply fast enough, but he called me instead of texting back. I was almost mad at him for being awake at this time.

"Hey." I said as I picked up.

"Come back." I heard Mark's voice and frowned.

"Mark, I can't. I can't leave Daeun alone." I told him as I rolled on my side. He groaned.

"(Y/N)... Please... I don't want you to get hurt again."

"I promise I'll be okay." I sighed, so did he. After a few minutes of silence, I could feel myself fall asleep. "I'm gonna go to bed. Good night Mark."

"Alright. Good night (Y/N). Please take care of yourself." He said then hung up. My hands found my face after I set my phone down, and I let out a heavy breath that I did not even know I was holding. It didn't take me long to fall asleep but in that moment, I wished I had been in Mark's arms.

Daeun still went to work the next day, I had the day off so I stayed at her house. I was standing in the middle of the kitchen, staring at the window that had been shot. Thankfully, the bullet had missed Daeun a great deal, which the police qualified as a fortunate lack of shooting skills from the shooter.

How did Seulki even get a gun? She was even worse than I had thought, and that was saying something. I had decided to momentarily live with Daeun for Mark to be safe from scandals, but by doing so I put her life in danger. I really didn't know what to do, as the person targetting me and the people around me was out in the open world.

A knock on the door made me jump out of my thoughts and for some reason, fear engulfed my being. I slowly walked to the front door, careful as to not make any noise. I looked through the peephole and the breath that was stuck in my throat was released as I saw a familiar figure, wearing a mask and sunglasses, red hair sticking out from the edges of the cap on his head.

"What are you doing here?" I said, opening the door and quickly pulling Mark inside. He took off his mask and glasses before looking at me.

"I had a break from practicing and I was worried." Mark explained, getting me to shake my head and put a hand on my face.

"It could be dangerous for you. What if someone saw you?" I sighed, walking back to the kitchen with Mark on my heels.

"No one saw me. And my dating ban is over, I can see whoever I want." I could feel the frustration in his voice as he talked to me.

"You being near me puts you in danger! Wonpil was attacked after having spent only five minutes around me, I was almost poisoned and someone tried to shoot my sister!" I raised my voice, and watched as shock slowly wrote over his face.

"And you think I'm going to stay put and watch while someone tries to destroy you? I can't just do nothing!" He got louder as well as he answered me, I was feeling a lump in my throat while I looked at him with pleading eyes.

"I don't want you to get hurt." I fell on a chair next to the table and buried my face in my hands. I then felt the pressure from his hand squeezing my shoulder. He stayed silent for a few minutes, but then my phone went off. I looked at the caller, and I slowly frowned.

"Dad?" I said after I had picked up.

"What did you do? Seulki is gone and the police came over, they're looking for a gun!" He yelled on the phone and I had to get the phone away from my ear for a second.

"She attacked a friend and tried to poison me. And now Daeun was almost shot. Don't be surprised if your precious girl is behind that." I said, anger creeping in my voice.

"Daeun? She's back?" His anger had been replaced by confusion.

"You didn't know?" I asked, it was my turn to be confused.

"No, I thought she was still in Japan." I heard him sigh. I stayed silent for a few seconds.

"Well what your actual daughters do is certainly not as interesting as Seulki." I said, hanging up and throwing my phone on the table. I grabbed fistfuls of my hair, groaning in frustration.

"Hey it's alright." Mark kneeled down in front of me and took my face in his hands. The warmth of his skin made me melt under his touch.

"I want it all to be over." I started crying and Mark wrapped his arms around me to pull me closer to him. His embrace had a soothing effect on me.

"It'll be over soon. Stay strong for me, okay?" He looked at me with soft eyes as mine were pouring tears. I nodded and hugged him. He was all I needed at that moment.
